Clocking in out using fingerprint?
Lot of stuff on the net about how to fool a fingerprint scanner. Tape, super glue vapours, dental mould casts, 3d printers, foil tape etc. Could be fun scanning in people who don't work at the mail centre dozens of times per day or leaving a set of managers prints for anyone to pick up and take away. How about being in four places at once (letters, packets, flats, tipping) whilst being on annual leave and out of the country.

Could also be dangerous to your job. How do you explain why there is sets of your fingerprints available unless you have helped to create them, potentially with an intent to falsify timekeeping.teesdale wrote:Lot of stuff on the net about how to fool a fingerprint scanner. Another silly distraction to move the debate away from the real issues.
Biometric systems are incredibly expensive, legally dubious at the moment, unreliable and easily bypassed and completely pointless in an industry like ours.
It's almost like Royal Mail has a department set up to come up with unworkable ideas just to throw into the mix during negotiations.
My wife worked for a major logistics company that used hand prints for building security, the result was half the time the system had to be manually bypassed because it couldn't read a sweaty hand and when one person caught the cold everybody did because obviously the scanner wasn't being cleaned from one employee to the next, after two shambolic weeks the whole state of the art and hugely expensive system was removed and replaced by a swipe card. That was a simple building entry system and they couldn't get that to work.
Can we return to the major issues like pensions, pay and job security please?

Whether it would work or not isn't really the issue (although knowing RM's propensity for buying cheap crap it probably wouldn't for long) but the huge outlay for a country-wide system would be prohibitive for RM. It ain't gonna happen.
The old jokes about fooling the system are just that, jokes. Who'd really risk their job for such an inane reason, because falsifying attendance time recording or equipment is a certain reason for dismissal.

I thought they were going to use a chip in your pass, I think it will work against RM.
