You just don't see it do you.

maleorder wrote:During the previous strikes the Posties had a lot of public support (me included) - based on the great service provided pre this summer. If you vote against this settlement I suspect it will evaporate. I don't think that the country can put up with a service which is not using the worlds most modern technology and best working practices practices. As much as no-one likes change I think it will have to be imposed painfully or constructively.

If we accept this agreement, which is the same as the original one we went on strike over, just worded slightly differently, what have we achieved? Nothing. We do care about the people we deliver to, we do not want to provide a worse service than at present. All the changes that have been imposed will run the service down even further, not least later deliveries and earlier final collections to name but two. These changes are not being imposed on the public by the postie, but by RM Management. But hey, if you're happy that small businesses have been pushed to the brink for no reason, if you're happy to accept that the service is going to get worse day after day and if you're happy to be ignored by RM Management and the government then feel free. It is after all a free country, which includes our right to strike. We lose money every day we strike and it is not a decision we have taken lightly. A final point I'd like to make, everyone so far has used the term "service'. As far as RM Management and the Government are concerned it is not a service but a business, and in business the little people don't matter.

all my firms get a good service on a saturday except for the ones that dont work or opt out of a saturday delivery. perhaps you and your neighbours have opted out in the past. mail is also very light on a saturday so not all of my firms get much either perhaps that is the same with you.

as for sunday deliveries you wouldnt get that with another courier either, at the moment royal mail are the only ones obliged to deliver 6 days a week let alone 7.

Disgusted,

Weekend deliveries were exactly what they sound like - deliveries at the weekend! You cannot remember when you last received a reliable weekend service because the postal service (like other public services!) is being turned into a profit driven organisation, rather than the public service it used to be.

Perhaps you should take this destruction of public services up with the main shareholder of Royal Mail, the government?

PS Just because you choose to work seven days a week does that mean that every other bugger has to as well?

methinks you may be banging your head........

i dont think 'they' can see it from 'the other side'.

i wish they would at least try a little harder.
I think you may be right.

Its hard to understand why some people think that striking can ever improve things for the customer? Surely the best thing to do is to work as hard as you can support your company and your customers who might then keep using you?

Sounds awful but I can't imagine there are many of you who are genuinely striking for the good of the service. Human nature just isn't like that sadly.

In the past if I have been unhappy with my pay or conditions I have let the company know and if nothing changed I left - never once regretted it. As far as I'm aware no customers were let down using that process.

Well disgruntled who wants sunday deliveries !! if you read the agreement RM want to stop Sunday collections aswell so there goe's your monday delivery aswell perhaps we should leave it all to RM then the people like you could go down to your local post office ( if you can find one left ) and pick up your own mail from a mail box which is what RM want eventually !! but of course were not protecting you

and if we had thought like that in 1939 we would all be germans now.
sometimes you have to stick up for yourself and not let people walk all over you.

I can see your point and agree with it but.... I think your argument with RM does not compare well with WW2 now does it?

Anyway - I left whenever I felt people were walking all over me. Its a great feeling.

semacsorter,

i would happily go to my local sorting office to get my local post if it had meant getting it properly. at the end of the day 'if you want something doing properly do it yourself'. i think you lot have proved that.
