Well done to your dom and linos for enforcing this.Straight4ward wrote:If they are allowed to go home early, then the fault lies with the DOM.
In our office you could start as early as you like but you won’t be allowed to leave before your finish time. Get back early and they will find extra work for you and, on the occasions where there is nothing to do, you will still be made to wait until your finish time.
Whether early starting actually has much of an influence on the amount of lapsing or hours cut from an office in these days of computer modeling is open to debate. Resourcing to workload is based around traffic volumes, call rates and timings for every action.
The days of getting out early and getting home early have long gone from our office. There are still many colleagues who like to come in early (insomniacs?) but how productive they are is questionable. There seem to be a great deal of coffee drinking, chatting and smoking breaks going on but the work is of a leisurely nature. I think some people just find it easier to work at a more relaxed pace rather than having to go hell-for-leather the moment they step through the door.
I’m in early on IPS and they certainly don’t bother me, a little extra conversation doesn’t go amiss.

ive worked in other jobs where you clock in and out and if you was caught clocking anybody else in and out you was sacked no questions asked because it fraud, that's why it needs to change as the signing on and off sheets are a total waste of time , posties who finish early never sign out or if they do they just put there daily finish time in , managers don't check them.rubberbond wrote:It might be the answer in I theory, however in reality? All that will happen is those who,get dropped off home by the driver will be "clocked out" by their colleague, barely anyone I know signs out anyway,so what is the point? It isn't enforced because the management go home early as well,or are out on delivery most days.TheTrolleyMan wrote:A clocking on machine is definitely the answer

Why are people so obsessed with what time their workmates finish? Why can't you just get on with it and worry about what you're doing and leave others to it. What they are doing is none of your business! There might be many reasons why they start early, run around, etc. All this crap about clocking on cards, just how would that improve your lives unless you were a manager?!
Too many of the sour grapes brigade in RM now, all piss and vinegar, all whinging about how life is so unfair. They seem to think that if everybody finished late it would make their own lives better somehow, when in reality they would still finish at the same time and it would make no difference to them whatsoever!
Stop being asses and get on with your own lives and let others get on with thiers!

The plan seems to be along the line of your ID pass as a clocking method.
However, it would go alot further than simply swiping in and out of the building each day.
Talk of swiping onto IPS and then swiping again when at your frame to prep, again when going on your meal break, again when leaving the office, going to the toilet etc etc.
They can already track you through the PDA on delivery and know when your idle etc, so why not introduce a means of finding out where you are every minute your indoors as well?
As far as not worrying about what others are doing - seriously wake up to yourself !
When hours are being cut, starting times moved about, your workload increased - it's the runners and early starters that are giving them the ammo to do all this.
Why do i moan about it?
Because as an indoor worker(not through choice - medical grounds) - i have to work my full hours ever day. Whilst other staff in my DO are working up to 2 months (YES 2 months) a year less than me for the same pay.
I don't blame the runners and early starters directly - i blame poor management for allowing them to do it.

To be honest Straight4ward is right, it's the planning tools and the reduction in indoor workload that's driving the cuts not really people finishing early, it doesn't help when it comes to arguing about individual duties but the main issue is the IWT. Later start times is mainly coming from mailcentre and distribution cuts.
The biggest problem with selfish behaviour in a DO or even mailcentres is the shoe staring when one of your colleagues needs help or is getting hassle from management. Mailcentres have an advantage because most of them have an area rep or some kind of senior union presence. Not so easy in a DO with a useless local rep or no union representation at all, Instead of worrying what time the guy on your left is finished at, try thinking about whether the guy on the right is coping.

It is your business when you're doing the job properly, and I don't mean dragging it out and taking the p**s, I just mean doing it properly... and your being questioned about your 'efficiency' by management because others are coming in early, not taking breaks, running around or not booking overtime when they do go over.Judgee wrote:Why are people so obsessed with what time their workmates finish? All they are doing is potentially giving more work to themselves. If people who moan work to their time, how can they be made to do any more???? It's only the runners, early starters that can be given more so let them get on with it it doesn't effect you.Mezza wrote: As far as not worrying about what others are doing - seriously wake up to yourself !

Whatever they do your pay is the same is it not? So why the hell busy yourself with that they are doing. Just get on with your own business. Do you worry that your neighbour earns more or works less? Is he/she a banker earning 10 times what you are or working only 3 says a week? Should they be made to cut their wages or work longer hours because you have sour grapes about it?

I had my attendance pattern changed from a 1 in 4 rotate to a 1 in 6. Reason given was that it was UNFAIR on the rest of the office that indoor staff got more weekends off. We were on the 1 in 4 as a previous DOM wanted us at work on the busiest days of the week, every week. Nobody was queuing up for our indoor jobs to get on the 1 in 4. We fought that change right up through a level 3 grievance and were told our local rep had signed off on it. We were also told we were not allowed to take our 40 minute meal break at the end of our duty and go home early as it constituted an abandonment of duty. Despite not 1 delivery staff being made to take their break and being allowed to take their break at the end of their duty and go home at least 40 mins early.Judgee wrote:All they are doing is potentially giving more work to themselves. So when i moan about delivery staff at my DO being allowed to work up to 2 months a year less than me for the same pay - i ask a simple question...Where is the fairness to the indoor staff at my DO ?
Before anyone says the usual crap about if i don't like it go out on delivery - I never asked for an indoor duty - it was given to me on medical grounds. Why should i have to go out on delivery anyway - it's all to do with resourcing to workload. Making use of all paid hours. It's down to poor management.

Mezza, as usual you're misunderstanding the definition of fair.
You argue that it isn't fair that you seem to work more hours than some of the delivery staff but that's nothing to do with fairness. They have a designated workload which according to the tools should take them a full work day to complete. Are you arguing that this workload should be increased despite the tools because some of them can complete it within those hours? Or ar you saying that they should be made to stand around until their finish time?
What do you do if you've completed your workload early, do you volunteer for more work? Is your workload so great that you can't complete it on time?
It's just as valid or invalid depending on point of view for a member of the delivery staff to question why you get the same pay for doing far less physical "work". In most industries admin staff are paid far less than those who do the physical graft.

Indeed FT, you could argue that due the fact that Indoor staff have full access to toilets and canteen/refreshments that they have it better than Delivery staff. Is that fair too Mezza? Should we cut your wages because you don't have to hold on to pee or drink? Because you can stay in a nice cosy office whilst deliveries go out in the freezing cold or baking heat?
Personally I say good luck to you because its none of my business and whether or not you have it cushy doesn't effect my day one bit does it?! But you carry on moaning about how unfair it is because everybody needs a hobby!
