A POSTMAN who had to cancel his ambitious fundraising plans after being attacked by a dog is returning to running.
Mike Chandler, 60, has raised more than £85,000 for Breast Cancer Haven in St Owen Street in Hereford over the years.
And the city postman is aiming to complete the London Marathon for the 17th time when he hits the capital's streets this month.
He had planned to take on a different challenge this year by running from John O’Groats to Lands End with his postman’s trolley.
But just after last year’s marathon, Mike was attacked by a dog while out on delivery and fell very hard, sustaining significant injuries so had to cancel his plans.
He has now recovered enough to take on the London challenge on April 23.
He said: “My full recovery is pretty much assured, unlike the women who visit Breast Cancer Haven who face a much more uncertain future by virtue of their breast cancer, a disease that killed my mum when she was just 38.
“Today the outlook for women like my mum is vastly improved and with the expertise of Breast Cancer Haven the road to recovery is a more comfortable one.
“Their expert care and support is free to any one but isn’t free to provide.”
He hopes to take his total for the breast cancer support centre over £100,000 this year.
