My delivery including travel out / back is six & half hours so I don't see how with a shorter week it can be made bigger so bring it on

In the mc that I work at I've noticed a massive drop in letters even dsa mail not like decades ago when you had rows and rows of letters 24/7 along with it loads of people just on the letters alone it feels like we have really lost something.

What have you noticed about packets, tracked, SD's etc?

Nice easy day, overtime sorting and prepping what gets left unsorted the next morning

And they will have even less staff to operate machines if they stop TPM payments

In a DO once you've got all the IPS done, typically how long will it take to throw off the walk, do the deads, redirections, etc, etc until you're ready to go out on delivery (not counting meal relief)?

And they will have even less staff to operate machines if they stop TPM payments

That wouldn't be a sensible move. They struggled to fill operator vacancies at our MC so someone got on the phone to whoever the agency of the day was and asked for a another batch of staff.
A couple of days training and a whole new range of operators were in place, as an added bonus, some could even speak a few words of English.

In our office everything bar meal relief is normally around one and a half hours that's according to duty builder.

Whilst I agree a lot of what you say about Royal Mail's ideas and that they are barking up the wrong tree on the multiple bundle system , the real issue we have to confront is Royal Mail believe they are not getting the true efficiency from Automation and in particular walk sequencing due to the fact it is sorted in a frame and that is why they want the first 90% not sorted into a frame. The second 10% based which would be 70 letters if you had 700 in total sequencing letters along with what manual would be sorted into a frame but you would not need such a big frame due to the the amount of Mail and this is where they are coming from with staggered start times with OPGs using the same frames. Now the key for Royal Mail is this would allow them to close further Delivery offices.

Now Royal Mail used to have a lighter day when we had two deliveries and that was on Saturday''s when there was just one delivery and second class , Mail sort , rebate never went out. Royal Mail already give a better than advirtised services for second class and the USO only makes up around 40 odd percent of your daily workload. This would lead to a significant number of job losses.

Why would you not need as big frames if only 10% of the mail was getting prepped into them? The frames will still require every single delivery point on them, therefore they will be EXACTLY the same size. Regardless of whether I am putting 700 or 70 letters into it. How are redirections going toi be carried out with this new system? What do you do with the 10% of non sequenced mail - how and when is this merged with the 90% of sequenced mail that never sees a prep frame? How are attendance calls going to be remembered when there is presumably no way of flipping letters or marking a "p" on the letter?

Depends who's prepping the frame while your walksorting, so if they keep you on the ips too long meaning your going out later they know people will be leaving loops or cutting off so will stand the mail down until the next day. So if the machines don't get the job done it will be getting left in the do. Thats why despite replacing fully timers with non sorting part timers they have to back fill the hours with early morning sorting and prepping overtime
