The whole scammers abusing sick issue is a red herring TBH - RM aren't wanting to introduce this due to scammers - they are wanting to divert the money saved into dividends. Scammers don't help, I'll grant you - but they aren't the prime movers in this RM "initiative".
Today they pay the first 4 days at SSP - 2 years down the line its SSP for the duration of your sick leave.
This needs nipping in the bud.

Will the union be running a ballot on these proposals? It's all a load of crap I for one won't be doing overtime if we go to monthly pay they can't get it right on a weekly basis so no chance over a month

Not looking good. From a selfish point of view the thing that worries me from those pictures is the mention of the MTSF agreement/payment protection. Working nights in an office where they have tried to get rid of nights for years but failed on health and safety grounds if they do finally shut nights the one comfort would be the 3 years payment of night allowance. If they scrap that I will be losing well over £12,000. Already looking at losing £6,000 per year off my pension if they bring in their proposals. With everything else mentioned there it feels like one kick in the balls after another, and they wonder why morale is at rock bottom and most people aren't prepared to help them out when needed anymore.

The problem is, RM have the union leaders in their pockets, from the top brass, filtering all the way down to office reps. Our rep has a desk in the DOMs office FFS. What is that about? It is hard to generate much in the way of support, when you see on a local level, reps agreeing to every ridiculous demand being put forward.South_London_Postie wrote:Everyone moaning about the union let's not forget
WE ARE THE UNION!
At the end of the day Royal Mail can suggest anything they like. But providing we fight as a team. Strike action will bring a crashing halt to 90% of this bollocks!
You think a public company can handle the backlash from the stock markets and national news headlining we are out on strike over conditions. profits and the stock price will tank and the CEO will be shown the door quicker than she can say "Ask Moya".
I hope everyone of our member like myself is willing to sacrifice short term difficulties to save our conditions for the long term.
We will not lose as long as we vote and if they play tough we strike.

No mention of the pensions. Is this the golden carrot they're going to wave at union to get half this crap agreed to.
Looks like RM have just listed all the remaining "perks" we have left.
Just hope union and members are up for a fight. I have my doubts though.

Nah, they'll get someone in your 'team' to cover it...... For free! Lol. I would be very much in favour of a work to time type strike if any of this gets remotely close to being signed off. Imagine the levels of sickness if some of these guys on the breadline get flu, they'll be dragging themselves into work rather than losing money, then half the office will go down with it! They need to go to parcel delivery and letters delivery for town walks, obviously it wouldn't work on rurals. It's costing so much to deliver letters cos we're spending so much time scanning stuff and knocking on doors. 'light' days were so much quicker (and cheaper) when we had bikes, instead of walking past calls with no mail. Could do my delivery a good half hr quicker on a Tues with a bike. No extra payment for election material = major headache in office when everyone Cutts off. Monthly pay, you'd get used to it, as long as any underpayments were made good the following week at the latest. Are there any details of cutting management jobs, as there's less and less work for us to do (yeah right) surley that follows on for them too, or are they making the job more complicated to GIVE them something to do? 10 yrs to retirement, God knows what the job will look like by then. Maybe I should become a manager as they seem to do ok lolthemaze wrote:Maybe total flexability will be more like your on 35 hours a week but different start/finish times every day depending on how much post is there?postslippete wrote:Well what a disgusting post, Postman!!
No sick pay for 1st 3 days for even a genuine sick absence??![]()
The over-timer's won't like the thought of monthly pay, because you can bet on the new £1 coin that it will be wrong.![]()
The 'total flexibility' might be the one to tip a few old timers over the edge. Some of them have never done a different duty other than the cushy one they have been doing for years![]()
And me personally, well I would be prepared to strike if they ever try and introduce the graveyard 10-6pm shift. Hands up who wants to be out finishing deliveries at 5pm everyday in rush hour traffic??
What happens if you hit 35 hours by thursday ? do you just not turn up fri/sat?

This will just be the thin end of the wedge too. I f'kin hate RM. I've dedicated the best years of my life to this company and put up with all their ballcocks thinking "it's ok, they'll look after me as I get old." How wrong could I have been. They want me to work harder and faster for longer for a worse pension and terms and conditions.

Notice they want teamworking in as well, i remember years ago they wanted it in as well ie getting one of your fellow colleagues in as teamleader and if someone went off sick the team covered the work, good idea on paper but would never work in a million years, on the plus side all the line managers would be moved on but it will never happen.

You say the only part of Royal Mail which is making money is GLS? But UKPIL made 608 million in profits in 2015/16 before transformation costs. While it was 7 million lower than in 2014/15 its still profit. While letter volumes have decreased by 10 billion items since 2007, the revenue for 2007/08 was 6,830 billion with only £3million profit. Now revenues stand at 7,661 billion. And profit of £608 million thats not bad for a company dealing with its core business being in terminal decline.dingo wrote:A few observations from the Briefing today !
Royal Mail want to cut costs , the only part of Royal Mail which is making money is GLS.
In 2007 Royal Mail delivered 23 billion letters costing 5 pence
In 2016 Royal Mail delivered 13 billion letters at 12 pence per item
They expect in 10 years letters will be 7 billion and the cost per item will be 22 pence.
Parcels traffic below shoe boxed has flatlined ,
My point is lets not confuse people into believing Royal mail isn't making money,It is making money. We have come along way since 2007 with seen massive changes. Now again we find ourselves fighting RM from turning the clock back on all the terms and condition we have fought hard for over the years gone by. This was meant to be talks about our pensions then we get hit with all this. I for one stand by my union and thank them for the terms that we have now. But lets make sure we don't throw them away!

All the comments that the Union should be doing something. You are the union, start creating lobbying groups to demand clarity and action from your representatives. Just look at what lobbying groups such as Change.Org, 38 Degrees and many others have managed to change by creating action groups. Get your asses in to gear, stop waiting for someone else to take up your complaints and create a huge swell of discontent and make sure that Royal Mail are under no illusion that you are not prepared to take this lot, and a total strike without an end date will be the ultimate sanction unless they withdraw their proposals. In the meantime, if you are able, you start putting a few pound away each week so that you have a fall back fund should the ultimate sanction be taken.
So to sum up.
Stand back and let this happen and you can only blame yourself. Not the union as you are the union. Prepare, lobby, and organise your personal finances.

Because Royal Mail pays their wages.jetblack wrote:
If you have a bad area rep then what you should do is summon up the balls to stand yourself at the next elections - thereby providing us all, I am sure, with the sterling representation that we all require.
What you don't do is get rid of area reps altogether. Throwing the baby out with the bath water. What the union reps need is more time to engage with members - not less.
Not even sure that RM are in a position to dictate this anyhow - its our union.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
