Pre-booked shifts cancelled

Post by One Voice »

Pre booked night shifts were all cancelled for this past week at my MC. Latterly there was a need to call in staff for one of the shifts.

Angard didn't even offer the shift to some of the people who had been cancelled, getting in different people instead.

Nothing to do with cost-saving; some of those not reoffered the shift aren't even on the higher rate.

Another example of the complete unfairness and random way that Royal Mail and Angard have collectively organised this Christmas.

I agree with the comment above which says that we were block booked to stop us looking for other work options and keep us available for the few odd shifts in the immediate run-up to Christmas.

At our MC Angard now has so many people on their books that it will be almost impossible to get a reasonable amount of hours from here on.

Got a text from Reed one hour ago saying 14:00-17:00 available, which is not really worth it by the time I get there and back. Then had a text 30 mins ago saying please book for 14:00 - 22:00 hrs .......if I'd agreed to just to come in for the 3 hours I would be fuming! Why not give those shifts from the outset?

Pre-booked shifts cancelled

Post by beechwood »

I had a 7hr shift yesterday first one in DEC. Several of us waited outside for half an hour waiting on the doors being opened, but the doors of the reception stayed locked, in the end we managed to gain access to the warehouse, no knew we on the shift for the night. :arrrghhh

At the end of the shift I spoke to a manager I'd seen at another site, he's offered me a weekend shift.

It's been a poor experience to say the least.

Last week of pre-booked shifts and the cancellations keep coming although with some weekend shifts haven't done too badly for the month. The RM xmas casuals have been treated quite badly with a number of cancelled or sent home early shifts. Overall much quieter than you would expect so not surprised shifts cancelled but the last minute cancellations still piss me off.

What's going on? I worked Saturday (25/3) after getting a text after 5 weeks without working. It was so busy the RM managers asked us Angard staff to stay longer. Although I was not booked in for the Sunday, they asked me if I wanted to come in then and work 10am -7pm, which I did (they also joked that we could stay until Tuesday, as there was so much to do). Even then we ended up being asked to do a longer shift. I was also booked into a 5pm -10pm Monday slot the next day, and according the managers it was to be very busy due to big changes in systems that week.
So when my Monday shift was cancelled due to 'massive reduction in the workload' it just made me wonder what's happening.

Incompetence by the managers? God knows.
