I must admit since Terry Pullinger has become more involved, the CWU does seem to be better prepared and have some better ideas. We've our AGM tonight and I believe guest speaker is Mark Baulch, so will be interesting to hear what he has to say.

dingo wrote:Not true the CWU want both a Shorter Working Week and pay rise. However the reason why the union wants the Shorter Working Week with no loss of pay and an increase in part timers pay is obvious ! Indoor work is reducing especially since Brexit due to the uncertainty. Automation is increasing. On top of this Royal Mail want to ensure that all employees are paid for the hours they work.

They want to use PDAs to record the GPS of postmen inccluding first and last pin. The Trimble in vans to record hours actually worked . On top of this they want to remove signing on sheets with finger scanning of actual start times , and the time you take after each task. At the end of you're shift you will be required to scan out. Royal Mail have proposed to the union that whilst you might be on a shift of 8 hours the finger scanner might record you working less than 7 hours ! Royal Mail have said in those circumstances employees will have a choice you either agree to opt to owe them the hours you have not worked and work those in heavier traffic periods or get paid for just 7 hours or not 8 ?

This is why a Shorter Working Week is needed to safeguard jobs !
This probably isn't that good an idea from management's viewpoint. Once the workforce gets the idea that it's time and finish, rather than job and finish, you lose a lot of "goodwill." Why bother to come in early unpaid, or to rush about if you're not going to get anything out of it?

Unfortunately Mark Baulch couldn't attend as he was delayed because of 3 days of talks with RM, and more to come apparently. So Mick Kavanagh attended instead, he did comment on the pillars, and to point out that there is trouble ahead as RM want to use the Trimble and PDA data to make duties up as they go, this means no revisions as such. He recommends talking to members about the troubles upcoming and he thinks it will be harder
to call strikes because of the new union laws that the Tories have just bought in. TBH every AGM I've been to, I've found depressing, but this next year does look as though RM have got a plan they want to bring in regarding pensions and work plan, and none of it looks good. I think we've got a up hill battle to get people involved and to care about their futures!

The job is going to change for the worst again, I think it's going to be worse than going to P&L as RM have so much more data to use against us.

People really need to forget about running round and look to finish on time, 1 figure Mick mentioned was that RM save £47M by us lapsing. They have told the union their not worried about lapsing stopping, it doesn't make sense.

It looks as though the union has got a lot to negotiate, with troubled times ahead.

So what exactly is the union asking for?
Each hour off the working week is approximately a 2.5% pay rise.
Inflation is forecast to be about 2.5% as well. A pay rise of less than this will amount to a pay cut and a (further) decline in living standards.
The union's pension proposal amounts to a further 2.5% according to you.
Are we asking for 7.5%? Every year for the next 4 years?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

LOL - they think using Trimble is going to actually save them time ? :Very Happy

Overly restrictive and punitive anti union laws have been and will be unenforceable - if we want it. Therefore, not worth the paper they are written on. The Act is a punt - nothing more. They are upping the ante in the hope that we'll fold.
Re. sequestration of funds - I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it - cryptocurrency. Someone needs to get up to speed and be a little proactive with our funds. Because if we don't control them, they do. And then, of course, they control us also.

They save money by lapsing IF the person doing the lapsing can do it in their hrs. I have no problem with that, EVERYONE should be working their full hrs they are paid for. If however, the lapsing is done on overtime, then that's a grossly inefficient way to deliver a walk!

i can't see how they save by lapsing. there is 80 people in our office. if they don't put lapsing on they have 80 blokes to pay. if they do put lapsing on, they STILL have to pay 80 blokes.
