Okay so I want to apply for a postie job, I have a good work ethic and yes I'm happy to work Saturdays. BUT maybe 4-6 Saturdays in summer I like to attend weekend events as part of my hobby. Is it frowned upon to book Saturdays as leave? Or even possible? If I mentioned this at an interview would I be discounted? Thanks for any info :-)

If it was our office it would be extremely unlikely that you would get an odd Saturday off during the summer, let alone 4-6 of them. You may get 1 or 2 as a rostered day off, if the office works that system, and you may be able to swap a day off - but Saturdays are like rocking horse poo!

In our office you'd have no chance especially as a part timer, our managers only seem to like you to take holidays as a full week block, never have I been able to get a couple days here and couple days there.

So I had an interview at my local office this week. I didn't bring Saturdays up but the interviewer did :Very Happy Said they do their best to accommodate Saturdays as a rostered day off if requested and obviously as long as it's occasional :nana All I need now is the job :pray

'Say they do their best.....' pretty much amounts to:

Postie: 'Can I have a Saturday off in 4 weeks time, not had one off for 3 months?'

Manager: 'No, but you can have Tuesday off this week, and next week and the week after'

Just to update - I'm now a year in and I've had my fair share of Saturdays and long weekends. Also had chosen Saturdays granted so all is good :nana No complaints here. Keep the faith :thumbup

It's down to the individual DO. I have been lucky and never had a problem, as a part timer, getting saturdays off (as my rotation day off or if I have had to book the odd day as annual leave providing I give a few weeks notice).

Reading other threads on here it does look like you can get badly treated and some offices sound really bad. My place isn't perfect and in my early days I couldn't believe how some things were managed but, the more I read on here, the more I realise I dodged a bullet and could have had it far worse.

Of course it only takes a change in DOM ...... :nervous
