I wonder how many times we've heard that before, along with "I.P.S. will end",crikey ,it's been ending for years, but I was there this morning,as I have been for innumerable years, dutifully wading through tray, after tray. In fact, I was thinking of changing my username to ,"I love I.P.S." Sorted.South_London_Postie wrote:Basically the runners days of beating the system will come to an end. Yeah but there isn't less work so it'll just be done on overtime (or they'll be in the do do when everyone says 'i quite like working less hrs for the same money') .postiewhite wrote:Its so they dont need to give a pay rise. Same pay, less hours

So if we went to 30hrs across the board, then would the linos and DOM's? As there'd be no need for them to be there any longer.

Got to be there for the late finishers, also what about locker personnel?rambo1 wrote:So if we went to 30hrs across the board, then would the linos and DOM's? As there'd be no need for them to be there any longer.
Of course they could do away with paid breaks, increase round length to 6 hours, and put in a 4 day week, p/t working less hours mon/tues and f/t working wd/th/fr/sat

Machines are taking over guys.... there's a £1,000,000 sequencing machine (in Exeter I believe) that does the work of 12 night shift staff on it's own. Letters/Flats and Door to Door Items are sorted/sequenced/bundled together before being issued to Delivery Offices
Soon there will only be parcel prep in Delivery Hubs in the morning... you'll not need a prep frame as the mail will have been bundled up for you by the new "super machines". It's not hard to see where thousands of hours can be saved... and jobs will go. Probably thousands
or
if you are a shareholder.
Anyone know any more about these machines ?

Surely the union will never agree to losing paid breaks at the same time as it's pushing for a 35 hour week. The whole point of trying to drop from 39 to 35 hours is to protect full time jobs when the new automation kicks in and indoor work is massively reduced. As you say, losing paid breaks would mean even a drop to 35 hours would only equate to working 8 minutes less per day on a 5 day week, which would completely negate the purpose of reducing the working week in the first place.Dorset Plodder wrote:I was chatting to the Area Delivey Rep not so long ago and that was his view as well. Under the New "4 Pillars of Security", proposed by the CWU, they will push for a 35 hour week (obviously still being paid the same). BUT Royal Mail will probably look to getting rid of our PAID Meal Breaks!Stunl3y wrote:Was that paid meal breaks I see being binned right thereTBH most of the Dickheads I work with don't take them, work through them & don't even bother to try and claim any time in lieu anyway. So they're not going to kick too much against that.
Do the sums: 5 x 40 minutes + 3 hours 20 mins (so in effect RM would only be "Losing" another 40 mins.

you kidding me, every office i have been to the frames are wrong and not how the actual walks are done.
what about the walks that no one is on , who is going to sift through the mail to evenly split the walk if you agree to take 1/4 1/2 of a walk.
just going to cause a whole lot of drama and disorganized mess.

Not trying to shaft anyone! I'm sure everyone will be equally shafted in any deal. Plenty of part timers will be shafted over the pensions If rm get their way I'm sure. If people aren't willing to fight over the pensions I won't be backing them in the future when it's something that doesn't affect me but does them, something I didn't think I'd ever saySouth_London_Postie wrote:HAhaha the full timers at it again trying to get the better end of a made up deal and shaft part timers with theoretical weekend work ! Let me know when they've designed a Machine to post the mail through the letterbox. Until then I'll just be plodding on!Decky Boy wrote:Machines are taking over guys.... there's a £1,000,000 sequencing machine (in Exeter I believe) that does the work of 12 night shift staff on it's own. You're right there SP. Admittedly there's a few Idle Buggers that can't even be bothered to write down how they actually deliver their Duty (and just let the Reserves muddle around the best they canSpacePhoenix wrote: Probably no one at the DO (whoever has the responsibility for A+ updates at a given DO) has bothered to update the A+

You can always tell when a DO isn't updating their A+ when you get bulk postings like electoral register postings, you get a load go straight to stacker 20 on the CSS
