Parcelforce driver was caught on three cameras trashing Robert Harpery's £4,000 motor

A PARCELFORCE driver crashed into a parked car and sped off — but the owner is a CCTV buff who captured it on film.

The van man was caught on three cameras trashing Robert Harpery’s hatchback outside his home.

Surveillance camera expert Robert was out when he got a call to say his Nissan Note had been crunched.

After viewing the footage on his multiple screens he called Parcelforce — part of the Royal Mail — and a manager turned up at his home with the sheepish delivery driver.

Last night CCTV analyst Robert, 58, quipped: “He picked the worst possible place to have a crash.

“He was never going to get away with doing a runner here!”

The impact had left the van’s front bumper and number plate on the road but the driver had still roared off in Stratford, East London.

The manager explained to Robert the employee, originally from South America, had been illegally reading a map at the time and accepted full responsibility.

Robert, whose six-year-old car was written off, has six cameras at his home.

He said: “When I reviewed the footage I was amazed. He just veered across the road into the back of my car at about 30mph.

"After a few seconds wondering what to do, he reversed and accelerated away, leaving his bumper.

“The impact bent the car’s chassis and crumpled the right-hand side. Insurers said it was not worth repairing.

“It was a real cheek — not the behaviour I would expect from a driver for a reputable company.”

A Parcelforce spokesperson said: "We are very sorry for the damage caused to the vehicle and will ensure that the owner is compensated for his loss.

"We regularly remind everyone that drives for us about driving safely and observing the rules of the road when out delivering or collecting parcels and are investigating this incident as a matter of urgency.”

"Parcelforce driver was caught on three cameras trashing Robert Harpery's £4,000 motor"
"Trashing" implies a deliberate act, so shoddy journalism yet again. :thumbdown
And no mention of the most important thing, that nobody was injured or killed. :thumbup

The guy has issues watching over a school, his windows papered over and garden strewn with rubbish, good job he's 300 miles from me, he probably got paid out so why go to the papers.

Yep, I thought any private CCTV was limited to view up to the perimeter of your property, this bloke's can obviously view school premises and the kids going into it......

"You also need to be aware that if your camera(s) captures images outside the confines of your of household, those images are subject to the DPA"

"your cameras do not intrude on your neighbour’s property as this could mean that you will not be complying with the DPA"

After viewing the footage the white van looks as though if i'm not mistaken operated by an Owner Driver . Also he's not the first Parcelforce O/D to be caught on camera leaving the scene of accident. Wonder if he's kept his contract with Parcelforce? Most probably did, the other kept his contract. Had it been one of our own he would be most likely facing serious conduct charge with the possibility of pending unemployment.

I was given a written warning by my DM for scraping the bumper of an old car,,even though the owner said not to bother,,I followed procedure just in case someone else reported it,,and the result of that was an official warning,,but there again,,my DM is the kind of bloke that can only get his sexual kicks by being an officious little tw.t
