Yes I know you have to call 999 to get the code to unlock the box it is installed in and they guide you through it, but surely the same could apply in the workplace?
They are designed so that anyone could use them.

At the end of the day when you phone 999/112 ambulance control will give you the code to talk you through what to do. As for organisations, St John Ambulance, first aid at work courses, British Heart foundation, red cross, local ambulance services at times.

To break it down in monetary terms as we get 2 to 4 x annual salary for death in service, do defibs really cost this much to maintain. :hmmmm

No! but can imagine the payout if a family were to sue because their relative didn't have a defib used on them as RM should have provided one. The quicker it's used the better chance of the survival.

DOM has one in her office apparently gets used everyday after she checks the budget gawd knows how the bloody thing will last after getting the electricity bill!
