A new widget from Royal Mail allows people to search the shortest and longest home moves in and out of an area.
The average distance moved by home movers in the South East is more than 26 miles, according to information from Royal Mail’s Redirection service - the equivalent of moving from Maidstone to Whitstable.
Using data from September 2015 to September 2016, Royal Mail created an interactive map that can be searched by postcode to reveal the number of moves in and out of an area, and the shortest and longest distances.
It's currently unclear as to what benefit this has to anyone, but it can get slightly addictive - and a great tool to help you procrastinate of an afternoon... (we imagine).

By having a little play, we've found out that someone in Cranleigh moved all the way to a coastal town near Oban, in North West Scotland, a distance of 415.99 miles away.
We learnt that people seem to be escaping Guildford, with the number of moves out of GU1 being 653, and 488 who moved in.
The shortest distance someone moved from Woking was 0.17 miles.
According to the data, the shortest single redirection in the South East was 0.05 miles while the furthest was 592 – the equivalent of more than 22 marathons.
I hope it will eventually help them to get our duties the right size, and length, it's not something that I'm afraid of as I have no objection to doing a proper days work.
