Our office used to be a militant office, unfortunately a lot of the senior men all took evr or have retired and now a lot of the people left are only intrested in themselves.
I would love it if our office went back to having some bollocks and stuck together, unfortunately it's not going to happen

Millitant Office is not a good start to call your fellow comrades but if you do decide to go to the office I would do as they do be prepared to strike and lose some pay for a better future in the long run.

The office has a sub office which does the outskirts. The manager phoned me explaining it might be best to take my car out on delivery (think its about 10 miles away or 25 minutes drive from the office) and then that would mean going home from there instead of heading back to the office because the outskirts posties finish their day on delivery. How does that work? I didn't think we could take our cars out on delivery. I haven't a problem with that as long as it doesn't inflict on my insurance but then there is petrol to consider. Seems a weird way to work like that. Is this common?TrueBlueTerrier wrote:postiewhite wrote:I think basically what im saying is a military office a good thing?
Depends, are you a Union member and do you accept and stick to the principles that come with that membership. If you do you'll enjoy working there, if you don't, or you are looking at becoming a manager at some point, then perhaps you won't.
It will probably mean no early finishes, using all the mandatory equipment and an occasional trip to the gates. But it will mean less lapsing and less pressure created because of a desire to finish on time.

It used to be common but now its illegal.
Royal Mail used to have a Bond which covered 3rd parties in case of accidents and it was up to the individual to make sure they had the correct insurance (Social, Domestic and Commuting is not enough), usually Business insurance to go to the 1st delivery point and Courier if storing or delivering mail from it.
However, for all offices that have had a Delivery Methods Revision the Bond is removed as part of the process. This effectively means that the Business has removed permission for you to use your car for work, this also means that even with the correct insurance is doubtful you are covered, as you'll be doing so without permission.
The DOM giving you the wink or nod to use your car IS NOT enough permission as the Companies policy always trumps local decisions.

Ah the plot thickens..... I love the,"It's a Local Agreement...Everyone does it" argument. What a Mickey Mouse Company we work for, when Management at the Top make certain agreements and then DOMs can completely ignore those agreements and do what they please.postiewhite wrote:

As for your original question: I wouldn't have thought it was that Militant an Office if they let the DOM get away with kind of think.
