They still trot out the 'he's unelectable' line despite ( to my knowledge at least) the fact that the man has never personally lost an election he has contested
was he not Labour leader when the Labour party in Scotland came behind the tories in the Holyrood elections (keep in mind their is no such party listed as "Scottish Labour")

Looks as though Jezza has lost control of the PLP again showing once again he is totally unable to lead the labour party effectively. With a three line whip one unknown shadow cabinet member resigns, not that she'll be missed of course, and a further 50 MPs threatening to go against the whip and vote against article 50. Probably scared they'll lose their seat at the next election but the state the labour party is in it won't matter which way they vote they're likely to lose their seat. :cuppa

Where's dear old jet and his sidekick?
Still hanging on Corbyn's every word, or has the penny dropped yet?
And every time this happens, the Tories' hand is strengthened to pursue their own agenda.....so welcome to the one party state, and all thanks to good old Corbyn and his doe-eyed Corbynistas. :thumbdown

They'll be celebrating holding on in Stoke and as Jezza said, "where's Copeland, is it near Islington?" It can't be long now Tman, even his best mate Diane didn't turn up for the first vote on article 50 with a headache and yet some poor bloke on chemotherapy turned up in a wheelchair - you have to wonder what the source of her headache was :whistle I can't wait for the next election when all the corbynistas will be proved wrong and half the labour MPs will lose their seat and we will enter a true one party state.

Be interesting to see if there's a motion at the conference about Corbyn. I may be naive, but surely even his most ardent supporters will now admit the game is up. We've got the most right wing Tory government in history and they're winning elections in Labour heartlands. Dave Ward should withdraw his support with immediate effect.

Copeland was never a Labour heartland since its formation there has been between 2-3000 votes between Labour and the Tories except 1997 but with the advent of UKIP a lot of Labours supporters who want out of Europe are going over to UKIP and the Labour MPs who rebelled against Corbyn invoking clause 50 did not help. I think Theresa May is riding on a crest atm but I suspect its going to crash as things come out ie hospital closures, school funding cuts and the rest. Tbh she needs to have an election this year the excuse for it would be terms of Brexit. If she waits until 2020 she could lose big time.

Dreaming about a Tory collapse is just wishful thinking and looking for scapegoats everywhere but in plain sight is just burying your head in the sand. There is nothing that will come out in the next three years about the government that we don't know about already and that the people in these by elections didn't know, are you seriously saying that NHS cuts and school funding cuts are a new thing?

It doesn't matter how much of a hash of things the Tories make with Corbyn in charge there is no credible opposition, voters will simply think "What would Jeremy have done?" and the answer using the last 18 months as a guide would be what exactly? The only thing that will dominate the political debate in the next three years is Brexit, not schools and hospitals and where does Jeremy stand on that?

With the 52% of the electorate that voted to leave or with the 60+% of Labour voters who voted to remain?
The truth is he'll try to please both camps in his muddled up way and end up pissing everybody off.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I think he answered that question by issuing the 3 line whip over article 50 didn't he ? What do you want here ?

UKIP are spent. Their job is done - its just a matter of time till they catch up with this fact.

The FPP electoral system wasn't designed for 6 parties - it was designed for two. Its time has come and gone. How long till the British public catch up with this fact ?

UKIP split the vote - as have the Liberal Party/SDP/Lib Dems/SNP before them - and the Tories are laughing all the way to the bank. Because it is always the Labour vote that is being diluted.

I honestly don't know what else to say on this thread - and I'm not really interested in arguing the toss (BTC is breaching all time highs as we speak - and that is way more compelling).
Either you believe in the common ownership of the nations wealth or you don't.
If you don't you are, for want of a better way of putting it, an Uncle Tom.
If you do, then I am with you - and the meek shall inherit the Earth.

Well he ordered the 3 line whip and the whips resigned as did some of his NEW front bench (not people we'd heard of) who refused to get in line. As for the meek inheriting the earth old Jezza will be in the front rank being an out and out pacifist who has admitted he would not defend our nation.

As for the labour vote being diluted :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle just why do you think that is jet? You don't think it's because of piss poor leadership, no policies worthy of the name and a total lack of credible opposition do you?

.

He ordered a 3 line whip, thus ushering Brexit through on the right wing of the Tories' terms, and then claimed that the "fight starts here". I'm sure many on here agree with Corbyn on an ideological basis, but the man is unfortunately as strategically useless as it's possible to be.

Labour has held Copeland for 80 years so clearly my definition of 'heartland" is different to yours.
