Can i take this 9 week break and keep AWR?

Post by kasu »

Hi, last worked on Friday 27th Jan. Unable to work probably again until April. However, I have booked 4 hours holiday for each of the 9 weeks taking me up until end of March. I am getting payslips with this 4 hours on them too. I will be ok to take a shift in April won't I and keep my AWR? I gather I might have fallen down the pecking order in terms of getting shifts but hopefully can get the odd few shifts which is mainly all I want anyway but would be loathe to drop off AWR having finally achieved it.

I'd give payroll a ring or email them to double check what their rules are. There is no set maximum number of weeks for holiday pausing the clock stated in the AWR rules but who knows how angard interpret them. They might advise you to ring in occasionally, if you can, to keep your security clearance.

Good idea, i just sent an email (would rather have their reply in an email in case they say it is ok and then try and backtrack when I return to work).

The reply was:

Their is no maximum weeks that can be taken as long as you have enough accrued hours to cover it.

That's what I wanted to hear.

Good to know. The only time it could be a problem is if you go into a new holiday year, even then you could still have April off as long as the weeks before were covered by holiday.
