Royal Mail are in talks with the Communication Workers Union about the proposed changes

Royal Mail is considering re-locating its East Dulwich delivery office to Peckham, writes Kirsty Purnell…

It is currently in discussions with the Communication Workers Union (CWU), with 37 staff at the Dulwich office set to be affected.

The proposed change comes because the East Dulwich office, on Silvester Road, cannot handle the volume of parcels which are currently going through it, nor is there sufficient parking for Royal Mail vehicles. It is thought that the Peckham office, on Highshore Road, has enough space for operations and car parking.

If the move goes ahead, customers would no longer be able to collect undelivered or oversized parcels from Silvester Road – they’d need to go to Highshore Road instead.

Royal Mail has assured customers who can’t travel to Peckham that there are other ways to retrieve parcels – such as rearranging a new delivery slot.
Royal Mail is not currently able to confirm when a decision on the proposed re-location is likely to be made, or when it will happen if it’s agreed. There are 37 staff employed at the Dulwich office, who Royal Mail has confirmed would be transferred to the Peckham site.

Royal Mail is also reviewing the option of relocating its Kennington and Walworth delivery office on Crampton Street to its Southwark and Rotherhithe delivery office in Mandela Way.

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: “No final decision has been made yet and we are committed to continuing to provide a first class service to all our business and residential customers.”
