Thats what i was thinking, indoor work reduced, outdoor work extended but having a reduced working week would kind work out. can't see 6 hr deliverys coming in maybe 5 / 5.20 or summit around that area with one man/woman per vanchickenwittle wrote:This is why the union are pushing for a 35 hour week rather than pushing for a pay rise , they know indoor work is gonna drop in future

From what I've heard a collection will be at the back end of the duty so no more finishing early so the duty will be like "in out (of office) in out and collection it about"

daveyeff wrote:if we get a 35 hr week they wouldn't be able to get a 6 hr delivery in. not on the format they've got now anyway. over 5 days it would be 7hrs a day. by the time you factor in 40 mins break, and conveyance time to and from the delivery, that only leaves you the 6 hours. what about prep, getting pda's , reggies, doing redirections, kill offs, go for a shite, pouching off at the end....etc. they would have to have a total gamechanger to achieve their goals. on top of it all there's the battle with the union over h&s of it all and the undoubted NO vote from staff. in my honest opinion it will never happen.chickenwittle wrote:This is why the union are pushing for a 35 hour week rather than pushing for a pay rise , they know indoor work is gonna drop in future

I'm a full timer doing a 9 day fortnight, so on some days I'm already doing a 6 hour delivery, as my shift spans 8:55 on the longer days. Including breaks that equates to 8:15 work time...you can do the maths from there. It *will* happen because it already is in some offices.

Like I have already stated the directive to the Planner is 2 x 3hr deliveries with break after 1st 3hr delivery with a collection at the back end of the second 3hr delivery this scheme was plotted by dedicated managers 12 months ago, like it or not it's coming and the union will say it will protect jobs in the long run but as we all know it will not with hundreds losing their jobs.

It might protect delivery jobs but collection drivers are in for a shock if they have to transfer to deliveries or be out of a job. The truth is nobody on the front line knows what will happen yet.

we were as an office, on 9 day fortnights, and some were on 3 weeks on and 1 week off....all that changed when management AND union came to us to tell us it was all going to end. there was not enough work to justify 8.55 shifts etc. we all fought it tooth and nail, but to no avail... we lost them. and now we are back on 5 days. according to them, the whole of RM is going back on 5 day weeks. everyone is going to lose their 9 day fortnights/3 over 4s/ wallingtons etc.LouBarlow wrote:I'm a full timer doing a 9 day fortnight, so on some days I'm already doing a 6 hour delivery, as my shift spans 8:55 on the longer days. Yeah we were told the same, but two revisions later, most of the office, including some spares, work said shift pattern.daveyeff wrote:we were as an office, on 9 day fortnights, and some were on 3 weeks on and 1 week off....all that changed when management AND union came to us to tell us it was all going to end. there was not enough work to justify 8.55 shifts etc. we all fought it tooth and nail, but to no avail... we lost them. and now we are back on 5 days. according to them, the whole of RM is going back on 5 day weeks. everyone is going to lose their 9 day fortnights/3 over 4s/ wallingtons etc.LouBarlow wrote:I'm a full timer doing a 9 day fortnight, so on some days I'm already doing a 6 hour delivery, as my shift spans 8:55 on the longer days. Sorry everyone, especially those who think the union would stop it. It's started already. Innovative Delivery. In our office there was a push for people to go to full time contracts of 39 hours to do 9 to 5. It's been dropped to 35 hours a week now but several people have taken them up on it. It's still 9 to 5 so they still have to do some overtime to make it work Come in at 9 and out by 10). Some walks have been brokwn down and added on to others (it's like perma collapsing). Some of the guys who have taken it up have only been with RM a few months, barely through the door and they are on 35 hour contracts. There haven't been enough volunteers to provide covers for the jobs though so don't know what's going to happen when the mega walk holders have a day off or whatever. I don't know how the DOM's getting away with it but if it works watch out, bumper sized deliveries are on the way to an office near you if enough daft sods volunteer to do them. It's like a mini revision but done on the back of a fag packet and with no re-pick, walk holders kicked off jobs they signed for if they didn't want to work until it gets dark, no planned cover rotation, no idea what's going to happen next!

''THOUSANDS'' will go. our area rep already said about a year ago, RMs vision is there is currently 68000 deliveries nationally. they want this reduced to 43000. a drop of 25000 jobs. which is why it would be insane for the union to agree, which would need a ballot anyways. who's going to vote for it? it would also spell the death knell for the union to lose so many members.....wont happen.walkthewalk wrote:Like I have already stated the directive to the Planner is 2 x 3hr deliveries with break after 1st 3hr delivery with a collection at the back end of the second 3hr delivery this scheme was plotted by dedicated managers 12 months ago, like it or not it's coming and the union will say it will protect jobs in the long run but as we all know it will not with hundreds losing their jobs.

if that happened in our office, I guarantee there would be a walk out.answer=42 wrote:Sorry everyone, especially those who think the union would stop it. It's started already. Innovative Delivery. duty holders kicked off duties cos they don't want to work till it gets dark, would be the first starter for a walkout, there wouldn't be enough volunteers to take on massive deliveries, the part timers wont even do it. and most, we are a very militant office with a strong union presence. if they are doing this in other offices they've either gone little/poor/ or no union representation.

just quick questions to answer=42.... if people have been kicked off their duties what did union have to say? ...if duties have been permanently collapsed to give some staff extra hours, what has happened to the staff that did those duties?
