Yes i do believe. That if a senior man with lets says over 37 yrs service, wants to sign for nights for the last couple of years. (To boost his final salary pension). Then he as earned the right for length of service.
You think its right that a member with less than five years service has the right to stop him from doing so. Never happened in the 80s . 90s. Nobody cried, we accepted seniority.

Duran over the last 17 years there have been so many changes where people have benefited from pay protection under MTSF. REmember we used to have 88 Mail centres now there are 39. We used to have nights in delivery now there are very few nights are just a couple of changes we have seen.
The union forced Royal Mail to agree the right redundancy payments and than pay protection where pensionsible pay would be impacted on from such a change. In turn Royal Mail insisted that resigns would have to be changed where there was a threat to pensionable pay. Royal Mail insistied that where there was a resign of jobs all those who are currently in reciept of the allowance would sign first based on how long you have worked on the shift rather than seniority. This is called shift seniority.
Seniority still applies where everyone is on the same allowance say in a delivery office. But does anyone think that Royal Mail will pay the £45.18 night pensionable and £40.30 non pensionable night allowance for MGV drivers to a new night holder regardless of how senior they are and also £95.18 pay protection to the duty holder who the more senior person has knocked off the night shift ? BLaming the union for not achieving the impossible to very popular but is also shortsighted.

I'm not talking about my situation. I've 32 years service . The last 28 on nights. However yes. Allowances and overtime ,nothing to do with basic pay. we all get the same basic pay. Seniority should dictate what duty we all choose based on personal preference.
I say again. We all started at the bottom of the seniority list. Where does it end. Someone on nights with 12 hours SA attached to his duty for last 5 years . Signed out by senior man. Has to sign for duty with only 4 hours SA attached. Under your way of thinking, shouldnt be allowed, to cut his pay by 8 hours a week.
Basic pay . We all get he same. My Answer to your question is yes. Seniority should dictate what you sign for to dictate extra earning power. Allowances and overtime are a bonus on top of your badic pay. Can be taken away at anytime by royal mail.

You've mixed up stuff - SA and overtime can taken away as they are outside agreements, or are from their own agreement. With SA they can take it away from everyone as long as they follow the agreement. Though I would expect the Union to fight any such move. Also as I understand it SA is treated as a separate issue on revisions, and whether it should be linked to specific duties is down to local arrangements rather than national ones. However, we don't have SA in my office so you would need to check that out.
Allowances, however, are covered by the MTSF agreement and cannot be removed so quickly, so again why would Royal Mail pay for 2 people to get the same allowance bit only 1 person actually working it.

Terrier. Never gonna agree here. I aint being me me me either. Like i said im on a night duty with other pensionable allowances. If i was being selfish i'd agree with you MTSF all the way protect my allowances. I'm not . I'm old school . That believes in 100% seniority, without if's and buts.
Didn't come on these boards to argue with a colleague. Came here to ask a couple of questions, with regards pensions and EU driver substitution payments.
