The main thing is the Health and Safety of you as the individual.

Royal Mails own lifting and handling training clearly states this,
The acronym T.I.L.E is used to determine this.

T - Task, Can you as an individual carry out this task safely?
I - Individual, Is it in your own ability to carry it out safely? (Carry out your own risk assessment)
L - Load, Can you safely lift, carry comfortably without strain the item? (Consider Shape, Size & Weight)
E - Environment, Consider the working environment I.e steps, ice, slopes, debris, leaves etc.... is it safe for you on your own to go down steps with said item if you struggle to lift or hold it?

Hope this helps you now or in the future, after all your safety is top of Royal Mails priority :thumbup

Wasn't making light of your problem mate, not funny what we're supposed to deliver today. All of the above are true examples, I've refused to take certain items, others in my office are more gullible!
We deliver Parcel force here.....in a Vauxhall Combo! Some days I've got nowhere to sit!

No problem, ask the customer to give you a hand to unload! 4 van tyres, banded together rolling from side to side in the back smashing everything in their wake! 10 tractor batteries.....but my favourite is the Screwfix order, 10kg of nails in a massive flimsy box!
C'mon people we're a parcel company now! :nana
I used to load the lorries PF at Screwfix, that was my job at PF, believe me SF don't give 2 f***s. When s**t hits the fan eveything goes out the window and it goes on the lorry. The boxes are shite and the cardboard gets thinner all the time, we complained about it daily. They are supposed to be making some alterations this year so there won't be as much or any spare space in the auto boxes but that's for another thread. Lol just thinking about it about it makes me lol some of the s**t we used to get. Small boxes full of screws or nails weighing 30+ kg. USed to feel sorry for the guys who had unload all the stuff at the hub.

Any thoughts? Yes! They are winding Parcel Force UK down and we will have to take everything domestically. Save a fortune in jobs and costs! The oversize we are taking now is ridiculous. How are we supposed to take 2 walks, specials and oversize and then all these huge parcels in one van/trip?

You were asked to deliver a item that you felt was unsafe to do so without help so why did you go ahead without help ?

Perhaps as well as having the fitness of a Royal Marine Commando and the driving skills of Lewis Hamilton, we now need the physical strength of Charlie Atlas (showing my age now :Very Happy )
How much worse can it get? A LOT F****** WORSE !!!

You boys don't deliver Parcelforce? I thought all rural DO's did? We collect as well, timed! Nothing better than picking up a broken Dyson early doors :nana

We deliver some PF stuff though there is one PF lad in a van who takes the BIG stuff. I haven't come across may REALLY heavy parcels, but a lot of massively oversized ones. Duvets and the like I imagine, as they're usually very right but as the chap earlier said, you can't get your arms around it! One day in December I had the luxury of using one of the hire Transits (bigger and better than the standard RM Peugeots) and one lady on the round had 4 parcels, all probably no more than 5 or 6kg, but all at least 3' x 3 x 3', with one being even bigger.....and she wasn't bloody in!!! I generally don't mind taking the big parcels, but it's a massive pain in the hole when you can't get rid of them and you've got to drive around all day with a big parcel (or parcelS) taking up half of your van.

Because I was told to by DOM, don't worry there will be repercussions, I had enough witnesses to what he told me.

We are not winding down we are increasing at around 20% per year. Our limit is 30kg and sizes up to 2.5 m. Letters are in decline but packets and parcels are increasing.
The problem is the postal service is designed for letters.
If it is unsafe don't do it . Get the customer to help or bring it back.
