Probably the reason why there's so many moaners working in the royal mail is because there is so much unfairness. Such things like...Certain guys getting all the overtime, certain guys who have a fixed indoor duty, certain guys being placed on a fixed cushy duty and even guys who have been promoted to management seemed to know someone or other.

Over the years I've learned to accept that this is the real royal mail culture, which is a shame because some of my work colleagues probably have better skills and abilities to do some of those roles better than anyone else - but they never get a look in.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

In theory I'd mostly always agree with this advice, but we have a similar few guys in our place that moan moan moan. They 100% DO have the time to take all their packets/specials/prep without extra assistance and openly display this by standing about doing nothing a lot of the time or going home early. The issue that I have with this type of behaviour is that there are around 10 staff in our office who are scared for their jobs due to not having permanent contracts yet (if ever) and are routinely outsmarted/outshouted by these guys when they actually could do with a bit of assistance.

Like said before, moaners will moan, it's nothing to do with RM per sé, more just their outlook on life - they will never be happy.

However, without knowing enough about the situation, this person could be doing the job right, and have a legitimate case for "moaning". Certainly won't help when "runners" go on his duty and complete in ridiculous time. Not accusing anything, it's just the fact of the matter.

There's a distinct difference between the two. The latter brings about positive change in RM. The former will usually accept their fate as defeated, often not claim overtime, work breaks, start early and so on. They are usually jealous of the "moaners" , call them lazy and whatnot, and can be found most times in cliques of like minded people, these people have no courage to stand up to authority.

Best advice is given above; keep concerned with yourself.

When it first went live the managers told them if u take the van home u can do the flex, but just lately they are leaving it, the problem with rm is weak management they are scared to stand up to anybody in case they bring it all back,& they have to take it out.
Not quite sure what you are on about.

I assume what you term as 'flex' is absorbing. As you say taking out a section of another round.

If I read this right (and that is not always the case)... you can take the van home if you do the 'flex'?

And that RM management are weak (because in essence they don't bully enough?)

And some of these terrible people are not taking the 'flex'. Disgraceful indeed.

I moan all the time, not because I'm lazy like some might suggest but because I know what management are asking me to do in the time allocated is unreasonable, put it this way,how many managers in RM would manage your workload?not as a one off, every day/week of the year, very few I would imagine,I wish more people would MOAN/STAND up for themselves.Oh and Lapsing,if every single postie were to deliver the mail by using correct equipment and do the job properly their would be very little lapsing and more hours put into the office instead.People never learn though.

I've heard nothing but moaning in the 3 days i've been with RM. The person I was with today worked their break, moaned they were on a duty they'd only done twice before, moaned because they probably wouldn't be able finish early (most people seem to expect this for some reason, we got back late I ended up working 10 mins longer than I should've and went I home leaving my partner rightly or wrongly at the depot), moaned because I was with them because I had only just started. Certainly brings moral down, i'm trying to ignore it and just get on with my job atm.

smok3y666... we moan for a reason. You will find if you don't you will get shafted good and proper. Just wait until you get upto speed... it might take 6 to 8 months. Do everything that is asked of you with a whistle and a smile. See what happens to you.

This the problem in a lot of offices; ,the DOM's are not really managers as such, they are just mouthpieces for the hierarchy and do what they are told to do in the morning conference call. Most of the ones I have encountered cannot stand up to those with a strong character and just give in, so they can have quiet life. In the real world of industry they wouldn't last five minutes,( I know, I was that soldier, before joining RM ten years ago), and I still haven't adjusted to the lacklustre, spineless, attitude of management.
We had a brilliant dom, stood up for us. He's now 'gone' somewhere else after probably not saying yes to the right people.

My partner woked their break then moaned because they were late coming back anyway, so who's fault is that? Royal Mails? So my partner was moaning about something that could've been avoided in the first place?

But you can look at it 2 ways. Had they taken their break, then they would have been back a further 30-40 minutes late, without using the overrunning delivery procedure, which many are scared to use due to bullying and harrassment, which is endemic of Royal Mail management.

So basically assuming you were 10 minutes over, and had no break, then your duty has 50 minutes too much workload to be achievable, yet the expectation is that it can be done simply because georoute says it can be done.

Perhaps if that is consistently the case, then the person has good reason to moan.

*regardless of this, break should be taken of course, but people do have obligations outside of Royal Mail and if management are not accomodating with regard assisting the workload then it is perhaps understandable that people just want to batter on in order to get home as quickly as possible. This clearly wont resolve the issue though.

To be honest I think that's true of most workplaces up and down the country. I've had a lot of jobs in my time and there have ALWAYS been the boss's favourites - the ones that do loads extra, and the ones that are pretty useless/lazy but are the boss's pal and get away with it
