The public is being urged to celebrate National Postal Workers Day by recognising the efforts of postmen and women.

The public is being urged to celebrate National Postal Workers Day by recognising the efforts of postmen and women.

The annual celebration is being held on one of the busiest days of the year for collections and deliveries because of the extra mail at Christmas.

Dave Ward, leader of the Communication Workers Union, said: "Our members play a vital role in communities across the UK. National Postal Workers Day gives us an opportunity to thank our posties for their efforts all year round. The Royal Mail may have been privatised but the service is and always will be the People's Post."

Deputy general secretary Terry Pullinger added: "We encourage the public to use the day to recognise that postal workers do much more than deliver the mail, they regularly go the extra mile to serve the communities they deliver to all year round and keep an eye out for the vulnerable and elderly.

"They are the eyes and ears of the local communities and many play the role of Good Samaritan helping people and customers they encounter whilst out on their daily deliveries."

the public should be told of the late deliveries due to increasing workloads
see if they feel like praising us when start and delivery times get later
the bullying and harassment we are put through by incompetant mgmt
and lets celebrate our wonderful postal workers getting sacked for being off sick due to job related injuries
