Sorry for my newbie ignorance, but keep seeing the term 'ghost O/T' bandied about - what exactly is it?

Overtime claimed within your contractual hours.
Cheers Pete!! One way of getting time and half indirectly I suppose if it's approved by a manager........not sure it would stand up if there was some
sort of audit and 'they' wanted to dump you in the poo.........

But then no-one would go full time, why would you increase your contractual hours and receive less pay than before.
I can only comment on the Delivery Offices I've worked in (about 10 over the years). It seems to me that a lot of the "Old & Bold" are quite happy to just do their duties (which have gradually been adjusted downwards through constant whingeing over their many years) and finish that hour to hour & a half every day..... giving them a weekly saving of about 5 1/2 hours a week! :no no No wonder they're not bothered about doing any overtime! :hmmmm

In the meantime the hours that have been "Shaved" off these duties are added to other duties ....... they're often delivered by the Part Timers (although ironically often prepped by the same "Old & Bold" (who need more indoor work adding to their duties, because they spend so little time actually delivering mail) but they're not bothered about that because it's inside in the warm, and dry, and they can have a cup of tea & a chat, plus numerous Fag Breaks. Although they still like to moan about how hard done by they are!:d'oh!

It's then the Part Timers (but not exclusively) who have to deliver duties which are often now too big to deliver in the allocated time. They're the ones out in the cold & wet going over on a daily basis for a paltry overtime rate, which they often have to haggle with bullying DOMs for on a daily basis! FFS it's enough to make your blood boil! :arrrghhh

im sure the PT would be offered FT positions and if they turned them down then RM would go back to employing more FT and limit amount of OT available. Duties that are currently done on SA duties would be part of a FT job.

In a couple of years time, if RM do roll out the XMS and CLLS machines around the country, then there'll probably be little if any indoor time needed in DOs. Between the CPS machine and the Soly system if RM ever went for them, that could eliminate most indoor time in DOs for packets

What grinds my gears is after 10 hours O/T our pay rate drops. I'm staggered this happens. The longer and harder you work, the less we'll pay you. It's humiliating and degrading, out of principle if I get to 10 hours I refuse to do anymore.

I think you'll find this was due to another Brilliant Deal negotiated by the CWU. I believe it was to restrict the ammount of Overtime being worked by a few individuals, and offer more overtime to those that wanted it within your Delivery Office. It obviously didn't work then did it?

Most of the "Overtime Bandits" in my Office get all their overtime paid at SA (so they're not effected by the 10 hour rule)! Where it does catch people out is were they're asked to work their day off. If they've got a large duty, which may incur 4-5 hours overtime a week suddenly they're over the 10 hour point. They're then losing out just because they tried to help the business out. Like the Drug campaign used to say.......DON'T DO IT! :cuppa

The overtime rates are one of my real bugbears about this job. I know when I was on nights and getting night allowance I would earn less for working my rest night on overtime then I would earn per day working the other 5 nights. What other job pays overtime at less than your normal hourly pay rate? Especially now with the issues in delivery offices where the business model seems to be to make the walks too big and just pay overtime for people to complete rather than having a manageable workload and employing more people the Union should really be pushing for an increase in overtime rates.

Companies usually can't offer premium overtime rates to part-time staff until the part-timer has done the equivalent of full-time hours, that would in most cases be unlawful.

I assumed the suggested enhanced overtime rate, would only function after full time hours for the week had been completed. That would be the most obvious implementation of it in my opinion. Might be missing something though!
