More constructive than industrial action, staff do the job they're paid to do and work no more no less. Striking means no one earns and the managers don't lift a finger either.

Do train drivers worry about customers? When you are in dispute you cause the maximum problems for the company so for us Christmas is the best time.Stammerking wrote:I,m not saying do it at Christmas as thats not fair on the customers but in the New Year as in our office wed/thur/fri are still bonkers.![]()
Two weeks of working contracted hours should highlight the problem and hopefully with proper information coming out of HQ to the media why we are doing it should help matters!

theyre RMs customers not *your* customers. If you left RM are they still going to get their mail from you ? Its up to RM to get the mail out to THEIR customers, if they dont have enough staff then they need to employ more whether that be temporary or more FT / PT thats up to them.cpsteve wrote:Do train drivers worry about customers? This needs to be replicated nationwide ! Unless there is a united stance it will only continue and gradually get worse then accepted as the norm. Eventually, and it has taken far too long in my opinion, we will see the bigger RM picture of running down the staff moral to such an extent we can either stand against it, or fall like a bunch of wimps as we are perceived!

If these part timers are working such long hours, why are they still stuck on a part time contract that doesnt reflect the hours worked? Its something else that is unfair.Dorset Plodder wrote:The point has already been made, you cannot expect Part Timers (who may only be on a 24 hour contact, and relying on the overtime to make ends meet) to work "Properly" for even a week. A daily "Work Properly" Day would probably be about as much as you could expect.![]()

You're right Woopesh it is unfair. And in theory I believe these duties have to be reviewed and the PTer offered more hours (if he's regularly going over) but it doesn't happen in a lot of cases.woopesh wrote:If these part timers are working such long hours, why are they still stuck on a part time contract that doesnt reflect the hours worked? ive been on a 22 hour contract for 4 years, yet i probably average 30 hours a week over those 4 years, on holiday and bonus's i only get 22 hours worth, ive asked for a bigger contract but to no availDorset Plodder wrote:You're right Woopesh it is unfair. Royal Mail save too much money on Holiday pay and by making pro-rata payments on bonuses etc. I sympathise with all Part Timers who are getting the shitty end of the stick, when all most of them want is a Regular Full Time job. Really grinds when they're putting in those FT hours anyway!

This problem is an ongoing one Trevjim and unfortunately it's NOT going to be solved. We're our own worst enemies....as you say you regularly do an extra 8 hours a week overtime (most PTers do a lot more), as long as your DOMs getting you to do the work there's no incentive for him to increase your contract.trevjim wrote:

If you've raised this point with your Union Rep raise it again. If you're not happy with his "Efforts" phone the District CWU office ( Tel No on the noticeboard somewhere). Talk to the Area Deliveries Rep and put your case. The 1st question they normally ask is, "Have you raised this with your Unit Rep"? If you still get no joy perhaps you should consider just working your contracted hours for a few weeks? I know we all like /need the extra money but as I've already said if you're DOMs getting the work done why increase your contract? He knows he's saving his Budget on Holiday Pay etc. Perhaps you could get a 2nd job to make up the shortfall, just until you've proved your point? Any DOM hates Posties just doing their contacted hours....I wonder why? Good Luck.

A nationally organised "Work Your Hours" thing would be fun but I'd argue that PT's should be given license to work OT upto FT hours (no more!) - Let them do the SA's so the DOM's have no excuse for withdrawing them.
The main thrust would be everybody doing the job properly - Trolleys, no shortcuts, no reading your bundle while walking, Deliver to neighbour etc. If a van share can get through more than one of their walks between them then they aren't doing it properly enough!

So we, with the Help of our rep who is great, decided we would all work just to our contracted hours on the friday, as a stand against the abuse, and to prove to the bosses that part time contracts are not enough and generally that the who infrastructure is a mess.
the end result was as you would imagine, around 60% of the office had to cut off, the managers (and their manager friends they pulled in from nearby offices were out delivering until dark, some mail was left over for today aswell, it was actually very satisfying and a big FU to the shambles that is Royal mail at the moment.
we are not prepared to do it everyday, as alot of the part timers need the overtime to get by, but we pulled together and made a stand, and have threatened to do it again if the bosses continue to mess us about, so we shall we what the future brings
