When Your PDA crashes...

The PDA's are shite, i completely agree.

However, you are wrong with letting the cage guy deal with it.

As a cage guy, i can tell you that the responsibility to perform a failed PDA scan is down to you the duty holder and definately not down to the RLE or 'cage guy'.
If you are out of time duty wise when you return to the office then inform a manager.

If your cage guy is confirming your signature cards then he is not doing his job correctly.

It's your responsibility to do the failed scans just as it is your responsibility to ensure you have no unsent items and have logged off.

As someone once said "You can only work with the equipment you are given", if it doesn't work, take it back and get a refund. No new PDA's for us 'til the new year, then who knows.. BUT we have the new charging cradles in the vans. So an old PDA doesn't fit into a new cradle, so who thought that would be a good idea to fit them so early..............answers on a postcard. Old PDA's with crap batteries run out after a couple of hours, then back to the 1990's, pen and paper. :evil/mad

Thanks for this. The cage guy always makes me scan them myself if I am in the position to do so. Sometimes I can't because I'm late back to the office or my log in credentials don't work etc.

I actually think the new PDAs are really good, when they work that is. Definitely better than having something lose charge after 2 hours and then make annoying noises at you every two minutes for the rest of the day, or have it keep clicking when in your bag or pocket. Oh and for you to take it out of your bag or pocket only to find it's changed some setting or gone onto some screen that you have no idea how to get to in the first place

That can still happen with the new PDAs ... Pulled my PDA out of a delivery pouch this week and discovered it had somehow activated the camera app!

True, but at least with the new ones when you turn the screen off, it stays turned off. Unlike the old ones which turn on at random times, or just won't come back on at all!

One other thing I love/hate about the new PDAs, they're TOO good at scanning! You go to scan a barcode and it INSTANTLY scans the wrong one, there's no time to line up the shot
