Don't want to add fuel to the fire in this thread but I've heard this might be happening to some part timers.
Not sure what you mean by is it worth it? Virtually all leave reserves have no choice as they're the lowest of the low as far as as seniority is concerned!

Yes it certainly is more stressful, having to prep and deliver a duty that you're not familiar with yet you're expected to do it just as quickly and efficiently as the duty holder who has been on it for 5,10 maybe even 20 years and could do it blindfolded!

As for reserves duties being posted,I think 72 hours is reasonable.

What i think is wrong the way reserves are shafted in regard to saturdays off and also being given bank holidays as their day off,Only to fight a losing battle trying to book their holidays never mids days in leui.
You must be having a laugh if you think it's okay to be told which days you are working next week at 3 days notice!

In respect of Bank Holidays all reserves should see the policy which is published on this site.
If your office always puts you as rest day on bank holidays they are breaching employment law as you are entitled to them pro rata as detailed below either as days off or paid.
I.e. If you have a 5 day a week contract you are entitled to all 8
2 day contract entitled to 3 etc
Read the below if in any doubt. If you haven't had them speak to your union rep or submit a grievance.
