Hi
My son got a email on 30th November to start in Royal Mail xmas casuals on 5th December. He had been at the regestration event early October with all his details left in.Now on 2nd December he gets a text message to say his security hasnt been cleared in time, and to wait on till it does.Im quite annoyed as he has arranged his times with the tech he attends.Plus i think it has been enough time to check security. Why send a email to say to start. What should i do ,still send him. CONFUSED!!

I guess "common sense" suggests that you go by the latest instruction received, that being the text to cancel, but I would be as equally uncertain as you with your son's situation and in a dilema as to whether to run the risk of wasting time on Monday and just going along to see.
So many people are having their shifts cancelled or start dates put back just now that this security clearance almost sounds like an excuse. The fact a mail was received on 30 November would suggest that he had already been security cleared.
