Postman assaulted and van smashed up in meat tenderiser attack in Lincoln

A postman has been assaulted and his van windows have been smashed up with a meat tenderiser on a street in Lincoln.

The postman, who is believed to be in his 50s, was attacked in Ripon Street on Monday, November 28.

A Royal Mail van was also vandalised during the attack with the culprit using a meat tenderiser. This caused what police describe as "significant damage" to the windows of the vehicle.

Lincolnshire Police say the man believed to have carried out the attack was wearing a dark anorak, jeans and a bobble hat. The suspect is to have been of a slim build and had stubble.

Police say the postman assaulted appears to have escaped injury.

The incident was reported to the police at 5pm yesterday.

No one has been arrested but inquiries are ongoing. Any witnesses should call 101 quoting incident 318 of yesterday.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: "Royal Mail can confirm that a postman was assaulted yesterday (November 28) whilst out on delivery.

"Fortunately, he was not seriously injured and is recovering at home. A Royal Mail van was damaged in the attack. We are working closely with the police and urge anyone with any information to contact them."
