Delivering parcels early morning

Post by cfcmac23 »

Hi,
This is my first Christmas working for Royal Mail and I have been asked by my manager to go and deliver parcels by van at 630am before going out to deliver my duty.
I have no problem doing this to help out but feel that it is not acceptable to knock on peoples doors at 630am.
Is there a rule or agreement in place on from what time Royal Mail can deliver parcels early in the morning ?

From LTB 674/16, Appendix A:

These supplementary parcel delivery duties will form part of the normal local discussions covering Christmas arrangements and will take full account of local circumstances in ensuring sufficient resource to cover the workload.

They will usually take place between 0700 and 1000; additional deliveries may take place between 1500 and 2000 (and no later than 2100).

The LTB is the top 'Stickie' thread in Union Room Forum.

I've done it before, normally about 0650 by the time I get loaded up and arrive at the first house so not that early really and I found a lot of people are up n about by then anyway, others get woken up. I only knock once and then they get a P739. Only ever had one person have a go at me and most seem ok with it especially if you explain it's now or maybe a few days before they will get their parcel.
Have a list of your packets and lay them out in the van in some sort of order. You will need some form of torch and don't forget to allow enough time to get back to the office through the morning commuter traffic.
