Hello everyone,
I have posted here before about having problems with my coach/partner and him being pushy. Today he exploded and was verbally threatening and abusive, screaming at me calling me a c***, little prick, telling me to f**k off, saying things like what you going to do about it?..... all because I'm to slow and he wants to finish on time, I've worked with other postmen and they have been supportive and told me not to worry about my speed. I called my manager after it happened to find the other guy already called the manager to tell him about it, he caught me on the phone to the manager and starter shouting f**k off at me again and saying "your making me angry" Tomorrow morning we each have to go see the manager, but my coach has gotten in first even though i was so shook up i was shaking, my confidence is gone, he has slated me behind my back and I just feel like its over. Im thinking about resigning tomorrow as I can't handle being treat like that. He is my partner on the only route I know so I dont know what I can do as i refuse to go out with him anymore. I need help and advice on what to do? thanks

That's outrageous. I would strongly advise against quitting though. Nobody should be treated like that in any workplace but quitting would only disadvantage yourself in my opinion.
I'm assuming that there were no witnesses to his vile outbursts?
Really doesn't matter who got their story in first by the way. Just present your side of it in a calm factual manner and I hope it's very likely that the other fella will come out of it looking like the aggressive turd he is.

No there weren't any witnesses as he was driving, he hit the brakes when I said don't talk to me like that and turn to me and said "what the f**k you going to do about it?! Comon? Yeh that's what I thought you little c***" and the abuse went on and on, I just don't see a way past this he's been there 17 years and I'm new it's his word over mine

You need to wait for someone more experienced to comment here.
So far as I am aware, you are permitted to refuse to work with someone who has spoken to you in such a way, even if there were no witnesses to it.
I would never sit in a van with him again, myself. However, I would stand at the frame next to him and do my work required, so long as there was no need to communicate with him.

Just going to have to go to the interview and hope for the best, I'm not going in another van with him again though, or delivering with him, I shouldn't have to tolerate abuse for going slow by a couple of minuets 2 weeks on the job.wannabeek wrote:You need to wait for someone more experienced to comment here.

if you are in the Union insist that a rep attend with you.
The other bloke has the same right so they may have to get another.
If you get on with other colleagues I would also ask the manager to speak with them.
One thing is for certain this bloke should not be a coach if he is using swear words and counselling you in such a manner.
Me personally I would see quitting as him winning, and I would put in a grievance instead. No one, no matter who, what or why, should face that sort of treatment by someone in a position of authority (little though it is).
You can refuse to work with him, there are processes that the Manager should follow when there is a "personality clash"

If you've got a smart phone, then record the abuse and use it, either make a complaint or go off on stress leave either way the bullying is unacceptable and frankly he's taking advantage as I'm sure like most bullies he wouldn't say a dickie bird to someone that might challenge his behaviour or put him on his backside.
I worked for a lot of years for a courier company being seen as one of the smartest and fasted in the job I trained 100s of people on the job, and even with the slowest learners, people don't deserve or expect the abuse you say your suffering.
I'm joining up for Xmas causal work this year and won't be taking any abuse from anyone, and if I see anyone getting it in the neck for no real reason I'll definitely be speaking my mind.
I hate those that are small minded and feel they can bully at work.
No need for it, as I said record it then act on it.
Good luck with it.

Unfortunately I haven't handed my forms in for the union yet, but the rep is always asking how I am and supporting me so he may still help if I ask him. And this guy isnt a coach, he volunteered to do this as I was going to be on his duty anyway, if i can get a positive response from the manager about being moved away from him ill be happy enough to stick at itTrueBlueTerrier wrote:if you are in the Union insist that a rep attend with you.

Thanks for your reply, the annoying this is i often finish before him on one or two of my walks, getting back to the van 5-10 mins before him, on the odd couple I finish on par with him, there only 1 or 2 that im around 10 mins behind on.... he said himself that im getting faster, it was this one loop i did today and because he where behind and there was a chance of him going over his time he gets nasty.beechwood wrote:If you've got a smart phone, then record the abuse and use it, either make a complaint or go off on stress leave either way the bullying is unacceptable and frankly he's taking advantage as I'm sure like most bullies he wouldn't say a dickie bird to someone that might challenge his behaviour or put him on his backside.
