Ban on overtimefor the Xmas period

Post by Surreypostie »

Our office is already a mess, people bringing bags of mail back, nobody has any wish, apart from a few that can do their overtime in their duty hours and get finished in time, to do any overtime. The teflon lot, start early, no breaks, step everything, scan nothing, carve it up, managers love them, sign their docket, no problem as they get the stuff out of the door, complaints swept under the carpet as they are our golden boys.

I've introduced a OT ban on myself. I'm sure there's plenty of greedy kids at work who'll do it instead.

Its sounds to me like a classic bullying tactic to try and goad posties into taking all their mail and packets out and not claim any overtime for it - even if by any chance you worked past your time.

It's funny how years ago most of us in our office never ever had to employ the overrunning procedure (the dreaded wilful delay!) and yet now, most of us are forced to use the overrunning procedure because rounds have been extended and there are more packets to get through, plus fewer staff to help out in both sorting and delivery.

So it will only take a few of you to start working to time, and yes there will always be a few runners who will get in a bit of docket extra, but believe me even they get tired of doing extra all the time. Our work takes it's toll on everybody.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

There is definitely something brewing nationwide re: Xmas arrangements.
Deliberate misinformation (ban on overtime etc) and an almost insane level of 'we'll see how it goes' planning.

I'll be honest, what little O/T I do this year will need to be made very worthwhile.

Bring on that ban in my area, makes over-running procedure a piece of cake!

Has this Area manager banned OPGs working their days off and coming in on early start o/t as well?

I suspect they are going to try and play the "we are going to have dedicated duties delivering Tracked in the afternoon, giving you extra time to complete everything else" card. Problem is, we still have ~5+ Xmas cards per house to prep and outside, each time we stop to grab cards for the next address before walking to next house adds seconds per house etc.

They should be banning D2d's & junk mail over Christmas rather than OT. These Micky mouse managers haven't a clue. We had a ban on over time awhile back by our DOM for some reason. Probably something dodgy. I delivered half of it one day, the other half the next. That way only half of the round is doubled up from the previous day. & if you can clear any big or bulky parcels along the way.

whatever is left is carried over till the following day
Where the mail going to go if the frames are crammed with mail from the day before
its only going to escalate
So much for privitisation
Well a national document appears to disagree with your manager.

As much overtime as you want at our place, early sorting, cut offs and parcels. If they ban ot in our office the stuff left each day would make it impossible for the trucks to unload the next

When the backlog starts it would be dreadful if a local newspaper somehow received a picture of peoples cards/presents sitting undelivered :whistle
So why would you want to harm the reputation of your company, you know, the thing that puts food on yer table, just to 'teach a useless dom a lesson '? Makes more sense to inform moya what's going on and get the job done right.
