HGV salary & allowances
Can anyone tell me what the salary is for driving 7.5 tonne vehicles, including night shift allowance. Also what opportunities are there beyond that - larger vehicles, salary, work patterns, etc. Currently doing my class 2 license off my own back & looking to transfer off delivery next year.

I am a network hgv1 driver so can't help with 7.5t rate, working patterns seem to differ between the voc's nationwide, some have fixed duties i.e. (The same duty all the time) some have Rotations 2/3/4 and even 5 week ones some have weekends included in them, NSA is approx £390 per month when the pensionable and non pensionable are lumped together. Be aware most vocs need drivers with hgv1 so they can drive all vehicles not saying they won't employ Hgv2 but be aware.

3week rotation example on nightshift.
Week1
say run from Ndc at daventry to say south midlands mail Centre Northampton unload then reload then on to prdc north London then unload /reload for swindon mail centre then back to ndc empty then finish. Start 16.45 finish 0300 Monday to Friday
Week 2
might be ndc to Nottingham unload/ reload then on to say wrt warrington rail terminal unload reload to Manchester mc then empty back to ndc. Monday to Thursday 17.00 start 0500 finish
Week3
Ndc to Bristol mc unload/ reload to swdc avonmouth unload reload on to say Southampton mc unload then empty back to ndc. Start 18.00 finish 05.30. Monday to Friday. Please note these are speculative examples and are not my duties. Some duties will be shorter so as to comply to a rotate average of not more than 48 hrs but as I have said every VOC seems different some have short rotation averages say 40hrs and others could be up to 48hrs rotate average. Some may well have weekends thrown in say weds to Sunday etc This should give you an idea of what to expect on class 1 working.

Thanks a lot mate, that gives me a bit of an idea of the different start times to expect. Like you say I imagine it will differ region to region.
