High level of complaints about Cumbernauld Post Office lead to open day on Monday

Cumbernauld’s under-fire post office will stage an open day on Monday, November 7 as a means of responding to issues raised by aggrieved customers in recent weeks.

Concerns about long queues in the branch of WH Smith have featured recently in the Cumbernauld News, amidst fears that staff are unable to cope with the sheer numbers of customers.

Many readers have stated that the former Crown post office in Forth Walk should never have been shut last year as its replacement downstairs is too small to cope with the needs of a town the size of Cumbernauld.

The Post Office however had insisted it was losing too much money to be retained in that form. As we’ve reported, a number of those who have complained about the set-up have felt fobbed off - and have also raised fears about how the branch will cope in the busy run-up to Christmas.

MP Stuart McDonald has also written to post office bosses about the situation and is staying in contact with them, with a view to seeing improvements made as a matter of urgency.

Although the special event has not been publicised within the branch itself this week, we can confirm it will go ahead and allow disgruntled customers to have their say.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “It’s very important to us that customers are happy with the service they receive at any of our branches. We have been working closely with Cumbernauld Post Office to ensure that the standard of customer service that we expect is provided. “The branch has arranged a customer forum starting at 10am and running through until 3pm on Monday 7 November, with customers welcome to call in when they wish, between these times and have a chat with the staff around any concerns that they may have, there will also be a suggestion box in branch.”
