Posties found themselves unable to deliver mail to parts of Denbighshire this morning after a Wales Rally GB security guard refused to allow them down roads that are being used for the event.

Around 50 villagers near Ruthin were affected when a delivery van driver was blocked from continuing his journey near Cyffylliog, close to Ruthin.

It is understood that a marshal for the Wales Rally GB - which is happening over the weekend - had refused to allow the liveried delivery van through because the driver “didn’t have any accreditation”.

The organisers of the Rally have apologised and said the problem had never occurred before, adding that security staff should know to give access to certain vehicles.

And Royal Mail has said that the deliveries will now have to be made tomorrow, and that it will be monitoring the situation.

One resident of Cyffiiog told the Daily Post: “I had to go to the Post Office in Ruthin and they told me that they wouldn’t let the guy through the checkpoint.

“I was expecting something urgent in the post so I ended up having to go out to try to get it.”

The Wales Rally GB will be beginning tomorrow in Deeside , with the competitors driving through Denbighshire on Sunday.

Thousands of rally fans are expected to descend on North Wales for the three-day event.

A spokesman for Wales Rally GB said: “We’ve never had this problem in the six years we’ve been doing it.

“We do have security guards on the roads but they’ve been briefed to let through tractors, post vehicles and other essential vehicles.

“We will look into why this has happened and why people have had their post disrupted.

“We work very closely with the local residents because we value their enthusiasm and support for bringing the Rally to North Wales. We have to work with the community because without them we wouldn’t be able to run this great event.”

A spokesman for Royal Mail told the Daily Post: “We apologise to our customers. We were unable to deliver between 30 and 50 items that we had to take back to the delivery office.

“We will attempt delivery tomorrow (Friday).”

probably a job's worth thinking he owns the road for a day .
Is they a law that you can't obstruct a royal mail vechicle
