Postal workers to stage 24-hour strike over 'unmanageable' workloads

Hundreds of postal workers are to stage a 24-hour strike in a row over suspensions and workload.

Around 250 members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) in Bedfordshire will walk out tomorrow after voting by 9-1 in favour of industrial action.

CWU official Neal Kidwell said: "Postal workers are in fear of their jobs and many are routinely doing unpaid overtime to cope with unmanageable workloads because they fear management will not listen to their concerns.

"We realise that strike action will cause disruption to the public, however the CWU believe we have made every reasonable attempt to avoid industrial action through negotiations with the business without success. We will consider further strike action if genuine talks are not offered by management."

This sort of thing should be a regular occurence all over the country ... but sadly in so many offices the CWU is either up the managers *rse ... or virtually non-existent ...
