The star made the shocking confession on The Jonathan Ross Show - he only last three weeks in the job

Russell Brand stole money from people's letters when he was a postman.

As a young man, the British funnyman worked for the Royal Mail and wanted to get the job because he thought it could boost his chances of having sex.

Working in Ockendon, Essex, confessed on The Jonathan Ross Show that he feels guilty for having nicked people's money and post so that he could buy himself drugs.

The former addict said: “I should not have stolen those things. I feel bad about it now.”

Brand, 41, managed just three weeks as a postman could find himself in trouble with his shocking admission.

“We have a zero tolerance approach to any dishonesty,” a Royal Mail spokesman told The Sun.

“It is a criminal offence to tamper with or delay the delivery of mail. Any employee caught doing so faces serious disciplinary measures and risks criminal prosecution.”

Brand appears on the Ross show on Saturday night at 10pm.

He also admitted that he's excited to become a father as his girlfriend Laura Gallacher is expecting their first child.

The star seems to have turned over a new leaf since his wilder days and has swapped his London lifestyle for a £3.3 million country mansion in Oxfordshire, south west England.

Russell split from Jemima Khan in 2014 and was married to singer Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012.
