Royal Mail is looking for a new home for a pillar box on a busy street – because it keeps getting hit by buses.
Frustrated customers have been unable to post items near the junction of Union Street and Bridge Street for nearly two months.
The box was sealed-off on August 4 after post bosses ruled it had become too damaged by a string of accidents.
First Bus said it was aware of four times in the last year when its vehicles had made contact with the box.
A spokesman said drivers were told to be more careful, but stressed the incidents had all been minor.
But mail chiefs have decided the only solution is to shift the box to a different part of the street and are consulting over the best location.
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “It is our intention to relocate this box a few metres further up Union Street in the near future.”
Its own policy is that relocation work should be carried out “within reasonable timescales, usually six months”.
A promised notice explaining the closure and giving “details of the nearest three alternative posting facilities” is absent, however.
A First Bus spokesman said: “There have been four minor incidents involving First Aberdeen vehicles and this post box in the past year on what is Aberdeen’s busiest public transport thoroughfare.
“We have since updated safety information and driver training guidance to ensure our staff are aware of the post box’s proximity to the carriageway and the need to exercise care when turning into or coming out of the inside lane.”
The Unite trade union, which represents many bus drivers, said it was not aware of any injuries being caused to staff or passengers.
A date for the move is still to be announced.
Earlier this month Royal Mail agreed to speed up the repair and repainting of all six boxes on the Granite Mile.
Aberdeen is scheduled to be among the last places to benefit from a five-year project to spruce-up every one across the UK.
But the city council complained that the delay risked undermining its town centre regeneration project.
