Hi all,
I have my induction next month for the Postman with Driving role, 25 hours part time in North London.
I was wondering what the role is like as I have never worked as a mail carrier/driver and heard many negative reviews on the position such as doing forced overtime, incompetent management etc. I am also guessing the 25 hours over 4 days per week are not as described as they may get me to do extra hours? Also will I always be out in vans doing the rounds? I am not in the best of fitness and may struggle walking 10 miles per day which I fear could affect my employment!
Finally, will jeans and trainers be OK to wear on my induction? Appreciate any advice! Cheers.

Jeans and trainers are fine for induction...
Wear your comfiest shoes for the walk when you start your shifts and if you get hot easily wear shorts...my feet and ankles were on fire and only just calming down, tomorrow I'm in week 6... I walk 10/12 miles...4 days a week
You will end up doing overtime especially first couple weeks while getting use to the round. Unless you take loops back...vans are used mainly to get to your starting points of the walk, unless you are driver then add driving to drop off big packets...management I guess will depend on your office, I presume all are different...
Fitness will pick up, I was terrible to start but slowly improving...hope it helps, you will be fine...

Get walking now, you will be doing 10 miles a day and it could be months before you get anywhere near a van. Good luck
