Lost 2nd class parcel

Hi,
Is there any way to find a 2nd class parcel that has been lost? I posted a hand made item (that id love for the recipient to actually get!) mid August, the recipient never had any missed delivery cards, and has now been classed lost. I have a photo of the item, the size was pretty big and it's unique. When I contacted customer services they replied pretty quickly and said they wouldn't be able to find it as it wasn't recorded so to just fill out compensation form, but I'm not bothered about compensation Id prefer the item back. Is there any way to find it? Could it have been sent to Belfast and if so how would I get the item?

This may sound strange but the best chance of getting it back is to actually complete the form and send it in. The details then get sent to the Returns centre in Belfast and with some luck they could identify the item and return it to you or send it on to the intended recipient.

That does sound strange! I thought they'd just have a database of lost items. I don't have proof of post receipt any more though and form said its needed? I know the date and pretty much time I posted but no receipt!

I think its the other way round, they have a database of claims and then try to match items to the claims.

Having the receipt shouldn't matter if they find it, it may however, limit any compensation you may be given, but hopefully if you are lucky you won't need any.

Ok thanks, I'll send one in today. Not bothered about money just took so long to make it Id much rather have the item. I'm hoping it hasn't been disposed of as it is a month since postal date :(

Well I got sent 6 stamps and told it has been referred to colleagues. I'm not sure if this means they've stopped looking for it now. I'm not sure how it could be lost though as it had correct address and return details, no red missed delivery cards and it was a sizeable parcel so difficult to misplace I would have thought. Really disappointed, took hours of work and wish Id sent it recorded, but I don't think that should have been necessary, the post should have got there regardless

I read online, not sure of the truth in it, that disposed of mail gets sent to auction, anyone know how to view items online? I'd rather pay for it in auction rather than never get it back due to the fact it was hand made

For the record, Recorded (now called Signed For) is treated no differently at all. The only difference is a signature is obtained at the doorstep (if it gets that far).
