A postman was confronted, threatened and then followed by a man while carrying out his duties.

Police in Annan are appealing for the public's help in tracing the man, who was said to be acting in an "erratic manner".

The postman was doing his rounds in Newington Road at about 10.30am on Saturday, when he was confronted in the garden of a house.

He said the man threatened him, and then followed him for a short while.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "The postal worker was not injured in the incident however was left in a state of shock at what had happened."

The man is described as white, in his early 40s, about 5ft 6ins to 5ft 8ins tall, with short brown hair described as ruffled.

He was wearing a navy blue hooded top, beige-coloured shorts and spoke a foreign language.

Constable Emma Neylon, at Annan, said: "This was a strange incident to happen in broad daylight on a Saturday morning.

"The postal worker in unsure why the man threatened him and we are asking anyone who may be able to help us identify him to get in touch with us at Annan through the 101 number."
