Why do they have such a commanding lead in the polls?
Why is Corbyn so unpopular with the general public?

There is no evidence that people want radical change, if you ask them they'll always want something a little bit fairer but not if it risks their own personal status quo. It's human nature jet, look out your window and seriously ask yourself how many of your neighbours would man the barricades, go into work and think about how many of your colleagues would risk their own security to vote for radical change.
There is no evidence that people want radical change ? So I guess the genetic make up of the cities of Glasgow,Dundee and Inverness do not come under your human nature theory as radical change is what they voted for.

ffs man a £500 billion investment in the economy,a national investment bank and full scale house building programme was the bread and butter of the post war super boom not only here but in the good old USA so if thats radical change then yer Ma and Da did it in spades.

Regarding yer other post whats with the donkey jacket/neo liberal conspiracy theory daily mail jibes. Why dont you say who you hang your economic hat on and lets hear your election winning policies and who you think is your 'messiah' for incremental change.

This is just an aside to the main discussion, but Corbyn does seem to have been given advice about how he presents himself. He's not wearing his peaked hat these days. He seems to be better groomed and wears a tie, and he is being more assertive in his way of speaking. He is not by nature an 'Alpha male' type. Even his detractors say he is a nice guy. If you saw him on the debate with Owen Smith last night he was more authorative and came over more as PM material.
Even Thatcher needed coaching in lowering her voice, speaking more slowly and body language when she became PM.

If he speaks more slowly than he does now he'll seem like he's on mogadon and he won't need any coaching, well only to the old folks home in a couple of years.

Owen Smith must need an interpreter not because he sound's welsh but because he cannot get his message across because he is to hung up on BREXIT and attacking Corbyn so he is in effect just another want to be PM for his own sake and the ideals of the rich and not the poor.

And Corbyn does get the message across? Well certainly not to the people who matter and that's the PLP and the run of the mill labour voter.

Half the PLP are in if for themselves most are Blairit's the one thing labour needs is new blood in the PLP and as for the run of the mill labour voter I would say this party need's to get back to basics of human dignity respect and working for the workers not the rich.

If the one thing that comes out of this leadership election is that 'normal people' are more energised into politics ( as I myself have been ) then that is a good thing - The Labour Party has been allowed to be taken over by party politicians that are only in it for what they can get ( Just like the Tories have always been)-

I'm sick to death of listening to politicians saying what they think we want to hear to get votes, it is in a way all our own fault for basically ignoring politics for so long due to apathy - let's face it Labour only got in under Blair as everyone was so sick of Thatcher and the conservatives in general and a whole generation that suffered under them could suddenly vote -people thought he offered something new, well he did it just was not anything new that was good!

There was no difference between Labour and the Conservatives at the last election that is why Labour lost so badly people didn't bother to vote, over the last year things have changed normal people are waking up and they like Corbyn, I don't agree with everything he says or wants but I do believe what he says - that is the difference, we need a real Labour to challenge the Tories, to challenge the whole way this country has been allowed to be run into the ground in order to keep the rich rich and the poor poor

I am amazingly surprised that members of a Trade Union and Labour Members ( those of you that have said you are) seem opposed to bringing back a real Labour party

I'm not at all against bringing back a real and electable labour party but not a left wing pseudo labour party purporting to be for the people but in reality is only there to destroy the real labour party. Actually the breakaway party could call itself just that "THE REAL LABOUR PARTY"

anyone breaking away would be against the whole ideal of the Labour Party - but they can go the way of the SDP - where are they now? Oh yes the Liberal Democrats those that jumped into bed with the Tories at the mere sniff of power - how did that end?

The slur that Labour is unelectable under Jeremy Corbyn is just that a slur, 300,000 new members, ordinary people interested in politics and willing to turn out in the rain to hear the leader speak, when in the last 30 years did that happen?

The change is coming, it is real and we will win an election - the fact the Tories have not called one during our most tumultuous time must surely tell you that

I've said it a million times already that the leftie CLP isn't going to elect Corbyn. For Corbyn to be elected he has to persuade people like me to vote for him and that will never happen with the idiot policies he keeps spouting born in the last century. As for winning an election with Corbyn as leader :left: really? Not in my lifetime nor his.

You shouldn't mistake a quiet and gentle demeanour for weakness. That's the mistake the plp coup plotters made. They thought the continuous bullying would break Corbyn and make him step down. It didn't. He might not be a loud arrogant type, but he is a strong and principled person.
As the saying goes 'talk softly and carry a big stick'. Corbyn has the big stick of a huge mandate from the Labour Party grassroots membership.

You're right he isn't a loud arrogant type, he's a quiet and gentle arrogant type, which will be his downfall in the end.

Ok DV lets hear your correct economic policies for 21st century though for someone who backed Farage and now backs Owen Smith who wants to take you back in the EU then I hope your policies are a bit more consistent.
