I have a quick question which I'm hoping some of the lovely RM employees on here could answer to help put my mind at ease.
I've been self-employed and working from home for the past few years alongside my degree. The nature of my work involves recieving a lot of post which requires a signature, these being a mixture of tracked, signed for, and special deliveries. Note that they are all letters, not parcels (I'm not sure if this makes a difference). I'd say on average I received 2 or 3 every couple of days, so as you can imagine in the past I've developed quite a good relationship with my previous posties.
Throughout my degree, I've lived in apartments in small buildings where it's been easy for me to get to the communal entrance of the block within 20-30 seconds. However, next week I'm moving into a large apartment building in a city centre area (8 floors).
I'm not concerned about my regular post as there is no communal postbox at all, so that has to go in to the locked postboxes on the ground floor, and I know the posties have a fob for the main door. But, I am concerned about the post I'm required to sign for, as I'll be living on the sixth floor, and there's only one lift in the building, meaning it might take me a minute or two to get down to the ground floor.
My concern is my new postie might slip a 'something for you' in with my regular post to avoid having to wait for me to come down. I know they are extremely busy and I imagine the minutes waiting for people to come down to sign for post in large apartment blocks quickly add up, especially in city centres where there are a lot of these blocks.
I don't mind going to the sorting office to collect my signed post now and again but I can't really afford the time to be doing it multiple times per week.
Am I overthinking all of this? I'm hoping all is good when I move in next week and my postie is willing to wait (or best case scenario, even come up to my door, but I doubt that due to insurance issues) for me to get down to the ground floor, but as I've never lived in such a big block before I don't know what to expect.
I would really appreciate it if any current RM posties/employees could share their experiences of what happens with signed post in big blocks like this.
Many thanks in advance.
