A 38-year-old parcel courier stole parcels and cashed them in at a pawn shop.
Jason O'Dwyer worked for a courier company which worked out of a Parcelforce delivery depot at Marsh Barton in Exeter, Devon.
Parcels were not delivered and an investigation led them to O'Dwyer.
A search of his home led investigators to finding some of the missing items and some wrapping.
Exeter magistrates heard the items were sold to a pawn shop in Newton Abbot.
O'Dwyer admitted eight charges with a total value of £2,000 – a figure the Royal Mail has had to pay out to customers in compensation.
O'Dwyer, of no fixed abode, admitted the offences but said he had sold the goods for £630, money he used to buy cocaine.
The court heard he had no previous convictions.
The offences were committed over a four or five month period.
O'Dwyer told the JPs:"I am sorry for what I have done."
After a fast track probation report, the magistrates jailed him for 20 weeks, suspended for two years.
