PENSIONS – ROYAL MAIL’S THREE CARD TRICK

Further to recent articles in the press concerning Royal Mail’s intention to close the Royal Mail Pension Plan from April 2018, this pamphlet is designed to alert CWU members to the implications of the closure of the Pension Plan and highlight the implications of the closure of the RMPP.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Looking at it logically its when not if. Not really what we want but in modern terms pensions are not going to be affordable like they were back in the day. With nearly 30 years service when I first joined it was final salary then we had the next chapter in 2008 and now 2018 and will probably change in the future. The way I see it is the less full time employees and reduced contributions in my book how will it be affordable long term? Maybe in the future things will change for the better!

This country can afford to provide decent pensions for its workers and wealth producers.
This graph proves it. Its the UK's economic growth over 65 years :-

Everytime there's a slump in growth (for eg 2008/09) its used as a legitimation for austerity, in our case the cut of the DB scheme. But what it really is is a transference of wealth from those at the bottom to those few at the top.
This leads to this :-

Image

Add in the derugulation of financial and labour markets, the strategic outwitting of the unions (divide and rule) and a mass media that is on board and we would appear to be down the creak without a paddle.

All this could be overcome - but when you add in the acceptance of all this as inevitable, even sound business sense, by the ordinary man and woman - then we are truly stuffed.
We are complicit in our own exploitation.

Are 'value of shares' as at 08/08/16 incorrect ??

I think £511.50 should read £5.11 so £45million would be £4.5 million (still a lot of money agreed) ??

Pension's were made by decent employers who looked after their workforce (people RM speak) and even provided homes schools and heath care for their worker's and family's none of this was questioned until Reaganomics and thatcherism people worked and got a pension until that time of the early 1980's after which the stock market's wanted more because labour could be sourced from around the world "Globalisation" for evermore profit. The so called NEW LABOUR made this even worse as they taxed pension schemes and our pension scheme was closed as the "Business" was not saleable without taking the pension risk away forever so in April 2008 we all lost our final salary pension. Now just 8 year's later they cannot afford it anymore AGAIN who think's we are not being screwed and we are not devaluing our workforce to compete with the third world like India china and the whole of Africa need their head examining! This is what GLOBALISATION mean's to us all the rich get richer the poor get poorer and sod the old the infirm and the children for if they cannot work they are no use to us this is the business language of today May god help us all as nobody else will!

While I applaud the team that are responsible for the first Bulletin for helping to get the 'message' out there to pension scheme members, quite a few of us at my place of work are wondering a) why we are reliant on a group of well intentioned 'guys' to produce this pamphlet and why are CWU HQ not directly involved or even endorsing it and b) why does the pamphlet not contain any email address for readers to provide feedback in the opposite direction to the editorial team.

Just a suggestion but an explanation on both points might help raise the credibility of future Bulletins.

 I,ve been on a Post Office Pension since Sept 1982 when i was retired ill, but my August installment did not come into my bank, the person at the end of my phone enquiry said they had a letter returned unopened from my mother who was my legal guardian, i told them she was deceased (a year ago, and i had forgotten to tell them !)), They then cut me off, and since then i can't get through, what do i do? It seems a private company are dealing with the pension, but with 'Due Process' they should have contacted me and they did'nt ! Is my pension coming to an end?, i have to have confirmation to inform the benefits people.

It's Royal Mail. Although the Post Office are also planning on closing their pension scheme a year earlier than RM in April 2017.
