More than 100 Royal Mail jobs will be going from Ipswich to Chelmsford as part of Royal Mail's restructuring process.
The company plans to transfer the remainder of its mail processing operation from Ipswich to its Chelmsford mail centre in Winsford Way, Springfield.
Some processing of mail, leaving Ipswich for other parts of the country, had previously been transferred to Chelmsford and a small amount to Norwich mail centre in August 2015.
Royal Mail says that 109 members of staff currently working at Ipswich mail centre will be offered the choice of working in Chelmsford.
Mail deliveries and collections will continue as usual from Ipswich delivery office. Royal mail says there will be no impact on its service to customers as a result of these changes.
The company has said that digital communications, competition in the parcels delivery market and the overall, year-on-year letter volume decline has made change imperative.
Royal Mail's operations director for the East region, Tony Fox, said: "Change is absolutely essential to meet customers' expectations of a world class postal service, modernise our operations to ensure we operate efficiently and provide a great quality of service in a smaller and rapidly changing market.
"We are committed to making changes without any compulsory redundancies and we expect we will be able to find roles for everyone who wants to continue working for Royal Mail."
