Comparing our job to binmen really is like comparing apples to oranges... they're completely different.
Binmen do have much more achievable workloads.
They don't spend the first 2-3 hours of their shift sorting and preparing mail and pkts under high pressure, mentally demanding conditions.
They don't have to be bending or squatting down constantly when outside.
They don't have to walk in an unnatural manner with their body twisted pulling a trolley or constantly having to twist their body to retrieve items from a pouch on their back.
They don't have to be double checking the correct address on mail for every house, whilst also dealing with d2ds, pda's, tracked items, 2d barcodes, specials, recordeds, pkts.

I can't see Saturday being done away with. if anything I wouldn't be surprised if weekend duties were introduced for both Saturday and limited Sunday deliverycomeracing wrote:mon- fri like normal british workersewancurze wrote:One reason they want to get rid of rest weeks. Then they can say we will "only" do 6hr deliveries for 5 days a week.

yeah itll be a 7 day service for sure. How much mail will be delivered at weekends is debatable but they will definitely want to be in the market for parcel deliveries on weekends, its what customers want.

Our lives are not so different to bin men actually because the more crap we put with, the more crap we are going to get!!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

6hr deliveries will never happen I don't think. Our office delivers 4.30hrs now so another 1.30hrs work is 1/3rd extra work, so 1/3rd of my office is roughly 9 jobs gone. Throughout the UK could be looking at around 40,000 job losses. The Union will never stand for that. Even if everyone who want EVR was taken into account, I dont think it is still feasible.
