I think the conservatives are much less fragmented than labour and that she would be able to persuade the party to go for it in her and their best interests. She has already said she isn't going for a vote on invoking article 50 and after that would be the time for an election. I think Corbyn is looking for the easy out if he really wants an early election, he knows and so does everyone else that he hasn't a cat in hells chance of winning and that gives him the reason to resign.

So you keep saying. But half a million Labour Party members would disagree with you. I know the opinion polls show a Tory lead, but the polls got it wrong about last year's GE, and the Brexit referendum, which Cameron thought he would win. We live in changed times with a much more unpredictable electorate.
I heard on Radio 4 this morning that May has taken legal advice that confirms her view that she doesn't have to have a vote in Parliament but can take an executive decision to invoke Article 50 herself.
May only has a small Parliamentary majority and would like to get a personal mandate. But the Tories only got around 26% of the vote in last year's GE. Even with the difficulties in the plp she can't count on winning a GE with a bigger majority.
If there was a GE sooner than 2020 and the Tories won, Corbyn would not necessarily have to resign. Kinnock only resigned after losing a second GE. I agree he probably would. But he does seem to be taking all the backstabbing and flak in his stride. A weaker person would have have caved in already, which is obviously what the plp coup leaders thought would happen. But Corbyn has proved to be a man of steel, and he knows he carries the hopes of a whole new layer of Labour Party members.

I must have said it close to a half million times before. They aren't enough to elect him as PM, what he needs is the 9 million labour supporters PLUS defectors from the libs and UKIP and more and in order to do that he has to win their hearts and minds with his particular brand of socialism and that he's failed to do. John McDonnell has already said if labour lose the election they WILL resign and so they should. Gordon Brown did and quite rightly so and that wasn't a total disaster but if Corbyn leads the party at the next election everyone in the political world forecasts wipe out. I personally will not vote labour at the next election if Corbyn is leader.

"Man of steel"? Really?
An unprincipled oaf who thinks that if he toughs it out for long enough he'll be able to stay. May well be true, especially given his opponent, but what the glowing-eyed followers fail to realise is that he's such a poor leader/politician, he's making the awful Teresa May look good.
Not really much point in leading a party (allegedly) following the lines of pure Socialism if all you can do is preach unattractive concepts to the converted, and hold little rallies in assembly rooms.
Be like the Shakers and Amish in the US; holding fast to beliefs but entirely separate from everyone else and their beliefs.

As a Labour Party member I will vote Labour whether the leader is Corbyn, Smith or anyone else. But that is also because my MP is ok (and supports Corbyn).

I don't object to criticism or discussion about principles or policies. But sneering about cardigans, beards, etc is pointless and petty.

Well although 70 I still have a full head of hair - so whatever they say about bald men obviously doesn't apply to me..................err what do they say

It's not something similar to shoe size is it because I was wearing size 11 boots for years but only took a size 9
