Postal workers walk out in dispute in Wiltshire

Several hundred postal workers have walked out of sorting offices and post offices in Wiltshire in a dispute over bullying claims.

The Communication Workers Union said members had gone on strike after a vote on Wednesday morning.

The walk out is affecting the main mail centre in Swindon as well as offices in Royal Wootton Bassett, Devizes and Chippenham, the CWU said.

Royal Mail said it was aware of the situation and had contingency plans.

MORE than 300 Royal Mail staff across Wiltshire and Swindon have gone on strike this morning.

According to staff at Chippenham's Bumpers Farm delivery office, the strike centres around the suspension of the area representative.

A Communication Workers' Union representative said: "I came to give them information and they have chosen as a union of people to come out in support."

The service is not affected in the west Wiltshire area.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We are fully committed to resolving our colleagues' concerns in co-operation with the Communication Workers Union (CWU). We will do all we can to minimise any disruption and to deliver and collect mail as normal.”

Services in parts of the SN postcode area today, Wednesday 24 August

Services in parts of the SN postcode area may be disrupted today due to unballoted industrial action by some staff at a small number of delivery offices in the area.
Deliveries
Deliveries in the following areas may be affected:
Chippenham SN13-SN15
Devizes SN10
Faringdon SN7
Royal Wootton Bassett SN4 & SN16
Swindon DO SN1-SN3, SN6, SN25, SN26, SN38 & SN99
West Swindon - SN5 & SN6
Contingency arrangements are being used to deliver as much mail as possible and we will attempt to deliver most Special Delivery items.
Collections
We'll add information about collections later today.
Enquiry Offices and Customer Service Points
Enquiry Offices and Customer Service Centres are all open as normal for the collection of items for which we've left a 'Something for you' card.
