I was talking to a phg yesterday who used to do sorting tests & he said that the rate is 500 letters in 20 minutes with a 1% margin for missorts.
Half the muppets in our office wouldn't come anywhere near that.....& as for missorts!!!!

They have been quoted as staying they will take him down the conduct code.....if that's true they can be done for bullying & harrassment. We are all different, all prep rates vary, you might suffer from dyslexia etc.
Could someone please advice me if there are is a national AGREED prep rate for RM2000, the once weve been quoted is 25 per minute !!
As an office delivery rep, I come across this crap every day. There is no agreed prep rate that can be applied across the prepping of a whole delivery. The 25 items in a minute is the standard Individual Performance Standards Agreement figure, but can only be applied to putting items in an empty frame over 3 minutes, one minute of which is timed by a manager.

Office revisions are often planned with CWU accepting a standard of 10 items per minute for prep over the whole of the task, but this depends on local negotiations.

The IPS agreement excludes harassing us with 'prep tests' once we have shown we can do the 25 in a minute on a walk. You should only be re-tested if you have been away from the job or doing something else like driving for months on end.

All else is harassment and empty threats. They can't use the Conduct Code on anyone who has passed that 25 in a minute test. Not for prepping slower.
When it comes down to it, full-time release reps like me don't have to do the job, the ordinary rank and file do.
Full-time reps sometimes need reminding who they represent. There's no time like the present...

AS LONG AS YOU DON'T ARSE ABOUT AND ARE ACTING PROFESSIONAL (YOU MIGHT NEED TO EXPLAIN THAT ONE TO THEM!) AND STUFF YOU CAN BE AS FAST OR SLOW AS YOU LIKE!
:angel
JUST DO THE JOB PROPERLY AND GIVE THEM THE FINGER IF THEY STAND OVER YOU -AS LONG AS YOU KEEP SORTIN!

YOU CAN BLAM ALONG AT 30/40 A MINUTE WITH THE FIRST CODED BUNDLE OF THE MORNING, BUT AS SOON AS THESE WEIRD SHAPED THINGS AND CRAZY THICK FLATS GET INTRODUCED YOU CAN BE DOWN TO 5/10 A MINUTE.

YOU OWE IT TO YOUR CUSTOMERS TO GET IT RIGHT - TRY EXPLAINING 'CUSTOMER SERVICE' TO TODAYS ROYAL MAIL!

Ah customer service, that may soon be a thing of the past if R/Mail have their way.

As an ex trainer (coach) I can verify that the standard test pass rate while being trained for sorting in a Mail Centre is (or at least was) 500 in 20 mins with 1% or less errors, however this is only on perfect mail, correctly addresses and faced up, in other words machine quality letters, not flats, packets or anything else. This does not mean that you are expected to sort 1500 every hour once you've passed through training because as we know the mail in the real world is far from ideal, though it does equate to 25 per min. In many cases it is achievable.

The IPS standard for delivery is:
Frame Type Letters Flats Packets
IPS 48 BOX 34 28 N/A
56 BOX 31 27 N/A
64 BOX 31 26 N/A
DBF N/A N/A 18
Prep 48 34 28 N/A
Vertical Slot 25 (All Mail) 25 (All Mail)

The IPS 1 minute test should be also only be performed on ideal mail, but as we know, many managers will try and cheat you just as an excuse to conduct you. They cannot conduct you unless you refuse to perform the test or believe you are deliberately failing. If you do fail then retraining is the next step. See your Rep, don't let the managers bully or con you. :evil/mad

In My old office we were one of the 1st offices to get the RM2000 frames and we designed them ourselves.. Well some did.... But most of em still had problems and size issues... I took over a walk that was half n half... 2 addresses in a slot and other half 1..

I got it walk tested after being moand at for not getting back on time.. 1030 on sorting... I had 750 - 1k of missorts a day from MECH Bundles to firms that postcode couldnt be splt from... And my 2 in 1 slots that made for mis prep and deliverys if i wasnt careful... I didnt want missdelivery so i done my job the way the 318 told me... NOT IN EARLY NO CAR USE... NO BAG OVER 16KLG AND CUT OFF IF I HAD TO...

My dum hated me doing this.... So i asked 3 times to be walked tested..1 time it rained so much the testers went back to the DO half way thru... 2nd time they said we had to much work that day and it isnt a normal day... (BOLLOX) THEN WHEN I GOT TESTED everything my Dom blamed me for he had feck all on me,,, Prep rate was up to standard and walking rate and it proved walk and amount of work was to much.... Over 9 years ago now...

RM and My old DO was hammered then.. 6-8 bags a day i got then... I just cut off and rolled it... RM then said i was creating my own docket.????
I did it all on a friday for 8 hours about 5 bags worth.. Cleared it and got my pay... Then they said they would get casuals in.... £13 POUND AN HOUR THEN...

NO WONDER RM WASTE SO MUCH MONEY...NOW ITS WORSE AND I DONT ENVY YOU BOYS N GIRLS IN A DO....

I now work in a MC but my work ethic is the same... 318 is king.....

stand your ground and NEVER EVER LET THE BASTARDS GRIND YA DOWN....#

Interesting,i got busted on Saturday,we only get 1hr-15mins prepping time at the mo,the DOM left us in the hands of the lino who gave us that time so we don't cut off.
DOM decided to walk around and made me throw in for 30mins more as i did not have enough work in.
I argued my case ect but got on with it,was wondering,if it carries on i'll use the old prep rate per min malarkey on him.
But sort of getting answers in this thread, well kinda, still confused on it all.

Anyways, for the record,i cut off!! serves him right for interfering!!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

resurrected thread because I caught some of this bullshit today.
Yesterday the boss called me into the office and asked why I had so few letters in my frame. Because, I explained, I've only had about 15 minutes on my walk and you may notice that in that time I've sorted all of my flats and packets and done redirections of the same. Flats being what they are, it takes longer to sort them. Additionally I have the handicap of being unwilling to attend work before 6AM.
Today a different boss called me into the office and asked why I had so few letters in my frame. Because, I explained, I've only had about 15 minutes on my walk and you may notice that in that time I've sorted all of my flats and packets and done redirections of the same. Flats being what they are, it takes longer to sort them. Additionally I have the handicap of being unwilling to attend work before 6AM. This boss persisted, waving around a piece of paper whereupon he had somehow decided that I had enjoyed a full 35 minutes on my walk, rather than 15, in direct contradiction of all that Albert Einstien has taught us about the regulatory flow of granular space-time... and that my sorting rate is now 4 letters a minute. Patently it f***ing WELL ISN'T.
The thing that f***s me off is that every day I've been leaving the office with a trolley loaded up like I'm going to the sodding moon ie - a quota of work many times above that which would be produced by this hypothetical 4 f***ing letters a minute person. I am leaving the office with all of that days work, and clearing a tray or more of backlog shite so why f***ing pick on me two days running when they can see I'm doing the bastard job (sorry about the swearing y'all)?

My theory is that, not being one of the eager-beaver-come-in-early crew, and having a backlog of work below my bay I have become a legitimate target. They want it cleared (actually, so the f**k do I!) but they can't say "work through your break" or "get in a bit earlier" so maybe they're putting on the pressure within "acceptable" boundaries of conduct in the hope I'll start losing sleep about RM deadlines and try to get in at 4.30am like all the other hopeless f***ers in my office.

Ruined my f***ing day that has. You do your best and it still isn't good enough.

Anyway, Friday I'm going in with a bit of paper and taking exact notes of times when I'm in there, clearing in, on sorting, on prep etc and exactly how long it takes. These dumb f***ers aren't going to intimidate me. I doubt the bastards can even spell it.

That feels better.
