hi guys so ive been given my offer to start work as a postie however i have also just found out im expecting :/
im so scared now that if i say something they will tell me they cant take me on , i have been given my start date and induction date im rougley about 6 weeks so i havent told anyone yet other then my partner, can they reject me now and what about maternity pay ill be fine for a while aslong as i take it easy but due to me being new to the roll i know the first few days / weeks will be shaddowing someone else , this is the perfect job for me and excellent pay , i just dont want to be jobless as my partner doesnt earn that much

They can't sack you because you are pregnant as that would be classed as automatically unfair by a tribunal even if you haven't done the required 2 years to be able to claim for an unfair dismissal.
However, if you don't advise them, they can sack you for failing to advise them.
My advice would be to contact citizens advice and get their take on it, they will have more expertise on this kind of thing that most will have on this forum. However, once you do start I would advise the manager as soon as practicable, and I would join the CWU and get advice from the Equalities Office as this would be their bread and butter.
However, if you don't advise them, they can sack you for failing to advise them.

They can't reject you due to being pregnant that's a whole sex discrimination case they won't want!
Same as they can't stage you for time off sick due to pregnancy related sick days.
To be eligible for SMP it's 26weeks you have to be employed by your employer however I'm not sure if it's 26 weeks before you reach 25 weeks pregnant good old citizens advice should help you with how the current legislation stands on that.

thanks guys i thought i would of got notifications for when people replied but i didnt , im still waiting for the midwife to visit me so i could get some advice of her then follow on to citicens would it be worth me joining the union straight away due to this surpirse ?
im not to fussed about maternity pay as long as i havent lost my job when im due to have time off , i would like to be able to go back to work pretty much straight away as i know ive got the suppourt there to help me go back to work!
i was reading up and found that i could ask to be moved to a differnt roll within the royal mail , do you think this is a posibility , i havent signed my contract yet but my first date of induction is the 1st of september and then the 2nd is my first day
